I believe its the wholesale club equivalent to the Panasonic's S1 series. Pretty good. It does lack some of the features of the G10's but it's still a great TV especially if you get a good price.

I know Costco has them, I don't know if any other wholesale club has them but then again why not.

I was just at Sam's Club earlier today, their S1 variant is the S14 as well. Same tv just an additional number. Its the same thing with their DMP-BD60, which is the DMP-BD601.

Thanks for the explaination. I was guessing it wasn't the top of the line but I don't have the dollors or need for that. I have allways had Sony but their Plasmas are a lot of cash.
Thanks for the link

Hey not a problem, I usually pick up most of my TV's at Costco because of their return policy and extra warranty. Don't be discouraged that's Panasonic top entry level plasma. The next model up is the G10 and you get some awesome features but you have to make the choice on whether or not it's worth the extra cash now. It's still a great TV and a good size.

i have an S1 54 inch and i love it.

though sears.com has the g10 for a great price (1799)
id jump all over that.

the reason i bought the S1 over the G10 is that my dlp broke and brandsmart offered me $1000 store credit for a new tv. i only paid $1400 for the S1 so i paid like $550 'out of pocket' with tax
the G10 at the time was $2400 which i wasnt paying that much for.

check out sears.com for the panny s1 & g10
G10 for $1799
S1 for $1999

While the S14 is a nice set, it is not equivalent to the S1. Panasonic does not just add a digit to the end of the model number and hand it over to the wholesale clubs for sale. They are different sets with different specifications.

Here is the comparison from Panasonic's site. Note the decreased native contrast and motion resolution of the Costco set.

Yes they do. Check out the comparisons of the BD60, BD601 and BD605. Wholesale clubs do this to prevent pricematching. The BD601 is Walmart and the BD605 is Costco and Sam's Club.
I'm also willing to bet that the S1 and S14 are the same or damn near and that those two differences are also to prevent pricematching.

If you click on the link I provided, you'll see that, in the case of the displays we're talking about, you're wrong.

Edit: Here are two differences that prove the fact that they are not the same set:

TC-P54S1 native contrast ratio = 40,000:1
TC-54PS14 native contrast ratio = 30,000:1

TC-P54S1 motion resolution = 1,080 lines (full)
TC-54PS14 motion resolution = 900 lines

These are not specs that differ just to avoid price matching...these are valid display specifications that show the warehouse set to be inferior.

Not really. Maybe the contrast ratio. 40,000 vs 30,000. But most contrast ratios are completely useless numbers anyways. As for the motion resolution. The S1 says 1080 lines and the S14 says "900 or Higher". What exactly is "or Higher"? Pretty vague is you ask me. Do you really think Panasonic makes a completely different panel that only has 2 slight variances for the S14?

It's not about just the panel. Something as seemingly insignificant as a cheaper board-level component can affect both of those specifications.

And yes, I think it's perfectly feasible to think that Panasonic uses cheaper components to satisfy their warehouse contracts. Hundreds of other companies do the same thing for places like Costco, Sam's, Wal Mart, Home Depot & Lowes, etc. It's not just about price matching.

Ok, maybe they do use some different board components. I just noticed the S14 also has a PC input, which the S1 does not feature. Slight differences, mainly the same product.
But my point was that, yes, they do just add a number to some products for wholesale clubs.

25% reduced contrast and motion resolution specs are not "slight" differences.

As for the other products, I am not able (or willing) to compare every product that Panasonic offers at discount retailers to their mainline counterparts, so I'll just bow out of the larger statement you're trying to make.

My point was that the TC-54PS14 isn't one of those products, nor are any of the other displays that Panasonic offers through discount channels.

They're not bad. They're just not the same.

My point is that "900 or more" is not really a spec. It is a cop out on giving a real number. So it's basically anywhere from 900 to 1080. Which is it, I don't know but it's somewhere in there. You are assuming it's just 900. Are you positive or just don't want to admit that you might be wrong also. I already admitted I was.
As for the Contrast Ratio, what is the difference between the 2? Can you look at both and tell the difference? Hmmm, I can't seem to find a contrast ratio for my KRP, I guess it's too bad to even list.

I am not wrong. All I have been saying, repeatedly, is that the displays are different - that the S14 is NOT a re-badged S1 - and I am right. I never said the S14 was not a good display.

It's the spec from the previous year's panels, which may well be what they're using in the 14 models.
If they were using the 1080 NeoPDP panels they'd state as much.

Anyway, OP the 42" S1 1080p panel is $799 from Vanns right now...how can you beat that?
