Default Doing a new "date night"

My wife and I started a new date night a couple of weeks ago. We go out to eat every Sunday night, and we take turns picking the restaraunt. The only rule is that it has to be somewhere we've never eaten before. She's really enjoying looking up new restaraunts on her phone and laptop, and when we drive around town... she's now looking out for new spots to try.

Anyone else doing something like this?

That's a good idea. We at least like to try local places to eat here in town. But this time of year, with hockey season tickets, it's mainly hockey and bars.

We ran out of places a while ago. We've been trying to setup a night out of town for a date night. Like a quick trip to San Diego or a weekend in San Francisco.

It's funny because my wife an I get along great except neither of us ever wants to decide what to eat and when one of us wants something the other doesn't feel like it.

Expensive to eat out every week in this recession!

Nice idea though.. Might consider it myself! Our girls need to be treated!

Yeah.... it really kind of started by accident. But now that we're doing it... it's great fun. All the girls at work are really jealous (especially when we bring our leftovers for lunch on Mondays ) and they are wanting to do it with their partners.

Definitely... this is a winner with the women folk. Fellows, feel free to steal my idea and present it as your own.

Not necessarily.... one week we went to Five Guys because they just opened one up in our city. The next week when we had a bigger budget we did a semi-fine dining affair. The more important thing is just getting out of the house together and trying new things. And if weekly is too much you can go bi-weekly or monthly.

You're right.. doesnt matter what the venue is, what only matters is who you are with. That is the whole point!

In our city, we've tried pretty much everything except some of the local places on the outskirts of town. I tell you, we've found some real gems that offer up good food for good prices.

But yeah, it's really about getting out and about.

That's what my wife first said when I told her it had to be places we've never been... but when she started looking at the various restaraunt guides on the internet, and restaraunt apps on her phone... she's found at least 30-40 places we've never been.

I guess it depends upon the size of the city you live in, and if you've been habitual diners in the past. I'd say in the past we'd usually stuck to about 10 different restaraunts that we enjoyed.... so that really left a wide open field for us.

"what do you want to eat?"

I don't care....what about you?"

"I don't know"

"ok how about pizza?"

"mmm, naw. "

"Chinese?"

"anything but chinese..."

"you pick."

"I'm not that hungry so you pick and I'll get something small"

rinse and repeat...eventually someone gets stabbed

Yup, I hear that.

And I've got the emotional scars to prove it.

This is a good idea, but with 3 very young children, it's difficult to do.

That sounds about right. I've started telling her that if she shoots down my idea she has to counter it with one of her own.

That's an awesome idea. My wife and I have our Saturday date night every week, and what we do is we simply go get Mexican food take-out and bring it back for a movie night. The movie is something we Netflixed and have waiting for us for the duration of the week (we usually only watch one movie together per week).

When you have two (young) kids, it's hard to pass them off to babysitters all the time, so we've found this works well for us. We go out about once a month, though. Usually that's dinner and a movie out. Sometimes we go to a comedy hour at a local hot spot, which is fun.

Since I think you have an iPhone, you should download Gowalla, and play a little game as you go around to eat at all these new restaurants.

We usually have lunch dates, the kids are in school and we don't have to pay for a sitter so if we happen to be off on the same day we will grab lunch or go see a movie.

LeAnn and I tried doing something random like that with my naviagation system in my car. We would toggle the stick and land it on a random place, and we both didn't agree to eat there because it's either an unknown restaraunt that we never heard of, or it's either across town. That died down and we just go to the same places that we love and enjoy.

Maybe when we go out of town we will try something similiar to that.
