Default 52" XBR9 vs. 46" XBR8

My XBR 5 is apparantly on the fritz and I will be picking between one of these. Does anyone have any opinions. The key feature that stands out is the 240hz motionflow of the XBR9 vs. teh LED backlighting on the XBR8. Screen size is different, but the overall size of the TV is very close. Any and all opinions are appreciated.

The XBR8 is easily the better set, but is size more important or the better picture quality? That's the trade-off. Have you considered any other options by the way? You should look at THIS new Sharp LED 52" for $1832.22 shipped which is an excellent deal. Chad B. over on avsforum just reviewed it and its an awesome set. Check HERE for the review.

I just purchased a 46xbr8 last Friday after months of looking and researching.
My final 3 were the xbr8, the xbr9 and the Pioneer Kuro101. I am extremely happy with the set , incredible picture and the fade when off centre is very minimal. This was my only concern with an LCD. In the stores I found the xbr9 to have a little less pop to its picture. A friend of mine just bought a 52xbr9 and loves it! I don't think you can go wrong with either set, but the supply of xbr8s is dwindling, at least here in Canada. I'm pretty sure it's been discontinued as it is not in the newest Sony print catalogue. The people at the Sony store were kind of vague about its future, the 55 has definitely been discontinued. If I were you I'd make up my mind fairly quickly.

The XBR8 is Sony's best set currently. I'm sure new LED sets will be out soon with the local dimming option. They may even be less expensive.

That being said......it really comes down to size vs PQ. The XBR8 will have the better PQ, but the XBR9 you are looking at will have the bigger screen.

Most people regret not getting the bigger screen.

The XBR9 is no slouch.

Watch the old CRT for a while and wait for the XBR 10

I would go with the XBR8 it is hands down the best T.V. that is on the market right with the best picture you will not be disappointed in the set.
