Default Got $450.00, now which sub?

It seems that the PA120 / as is the same as the Acoustic Audio is highly praised on here, which also has a great price for the 12"er, but only sales in Maple and it will not match my other speakers. So it is out of the question.

I am a total believer in "budget setup"
So right now, I got $450.00 that's burning a whole in my pocket itching for a sub.

My living / music / HT-room is 17' x 22', but my listening area is about 13' away for TV. So this is the projected area where I want my sound to be in.

I know there is many talk about SvS and I owned for a little while a PB10-NSD and while it was good, I got rid of it pretty fast. I sold it because it had something to do with a hummmmm coming out of the amp that was very annoying. I was told it was a ground-loop issue and I got a plug to bypass that and it was still there. Used other plug outlets and still was there. So I just liquidated it off to someone else. I am sure SvS would have fixed it, but I didn't want the headache or shipping an sub big / heavy as an Leatherback Turtle.

So off I go to another adventure of "sub-shopping".
Notice there not much talk on here about HSU or EarthQuake. I am looking at trying HSU pretty hard. I hear even their 8" does an awesome job for a behind the couch sub. Maybe two- it would even be better .

The other subs I recently owned are: Cadence CSX15 loved it, great impact, but only good for movies (not musical), Velodyne VRP1200 (ok for what it was / nothing to shine and brag about in any way) & old skool DCM-10 (back in the days / entry level).

Oh, before I forget.... I was considering ED A2-300, but the wait time is too long. So I am going to pass on that.

Music is becoming a huge part of me. When I opt to go stereo / 2-channel I let my Northridges go to work, but I do seek some more bass. The 8" drivers on my R60s are nice, but I just need little more UMP. In movies... I want mo'UMP

I'll be using this sub for: 60% music / 40% movies / 20% added bonus when I need mo' bass in movies :P.

Ok........ so the suggestions?

Thanks

I do not think you can go wrong with a HSU or Earthquake. I have not heard these subs or am I familiar with any price points with your $450 budget. I'm sorry to hear of your experience with the SVS sub, as I have to admit that was the first issue I have heard on one of their subs while I have been a proud owner and member here. Therefore, by excluding them, I would say either HSU or Earthquake would easily get the job done if you find that it fits your budget. Nice taste in subs by the way. Good luck in your search!

Thanks, I really wanted to keep the SvS b/c of the highly praise about it. Even SvS was great on assistance, but I just chose to get rid of it. I was the 2nd owner on it and I think the original seller was selling off a issue sub. Of course the seller made off as a bandit. I didn't want to point fingers and I took the loss when I got rid of it and even mentioned it when I sold it.

HSU is looking promising. I hear mixed about earthquake and that customer service maybe lacking (at least from what I read on audio review)

They do have black...http://cgi.ebay.com/H100-Premier-Aco...d=p3286.c0.m14

I still think two subs will serve you better in a room that size, IMO.

That is correct, as in an email to me for my BLACK PA-120, the guy there (Eric Winston) said they just had a container come & pick up 120 (yes, that # is correct!) Subs ready to go out for delivery, so Black is in stock there. I'll get the contact info if you need it & come back here in a few. Stand by.

Actually this is right from their Ebay store link above:

Is the PA (Premier Acoustic / PA-120) or Acoustic Audio (HD-SUB12) the same?. Not sure if these are even the same sub or not . of I maybe getting confused, lol

I may also consider a Monitor Audio ASW-210 (duals baby). A lot of subs out there. I even hear great thinks about Epik, which I may consider if I can get more then $450.00 out of my wallet

Epik is another great company picture shooter. I was recommended by a couple of member here when I was looking to make my last sub purchase to look into Epik....but as you can tell, you'll probably need to expand your budget a bit.

I looked at the Earthquake subs, but I was a little leery with the mixed reviews. It seems that they are good performers, but getting them setup into your system can be very tricky. Placement is vital with their subs. I ended up going with a Sunfire which I'm very happy with. You could also look at the Outlaw subs. They have great deals on their B-stock and the B-stock prices include shipping. They have the LFM-1 Plus for $474 and I think you should take a hard look at that deal. I was looking for power in a small package which is why I didn't get it, but if size is no issue the Outlaw is a hard deal to overlook.

With that kind of budget I'd get SVS or Hsu, personally. Or two PA-120's, but I'm more in the "get the biggest you can" camp- you can always add a second later.

If you can bump your budget by a 100 then the ED A3-300 is a great choice.

If you don't mind the wait then the ED A2-300 is a proven performer.

I would definitely check it out at that price. If it is in good shape, you got yourself a steal. Those subs can really put out some seriously low, solid bass.
