Default Manhunt 2 banned / given AO rating

Seems like the BBFC seems to consider this way TOO violent to have it released in the UK.

I was looking forward to this one as it would fill in the gap between Hitman: Blood Money and the next Hitman.

Heres the link to the story: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/l...re/6767623.stm

I bought the original cheap, didn't like it much, just sick and depressing! I could actually see Manhunt messing people up as it's so concentrated on sick killing.

Its on PSP too. Also, I think it should have stayed in the ps3 area as its a ps2 game, meaning you can play it on a ps3. And its big news. I can't beleive it. I was looking forward to that.

I read this today... never had any interest in Manhunt or Manhunt 2... now I have this overwhelming desire to possess both as soon as possible.

I left the UK back in 1990, back when things were still being cut, censored and banned on a fairly regualr basis. Then, about a decade later, there was, seemingly overnight, a change in the BBFC policy. When browsing HMV and Virgin megstores there last year, it was the coolest thing to see previously banned material now available on DVD in my home country. I thought the UK had finally stepped up, and allowed the public to be the final arbitraitor of what was acceptable and what wasn't.

And though, Shin-Ra, I think your personal point of view is valid, censorship of an artistic medium (games/movies/books/music) is never the answer.

It seems there has just been a major step backward to the witch-hunt days of the early 1980's... the heyday of Video Nasties, etc.

From Gamespot's story:

Quote:
[UPDATE] The Irish Film Censor's Office has also announced that the game has been banned in the Republic of Ireland. In a statement, the board gave its reasoning as follows, "IFCO recognizes that in certain films, DVDs and video games, strong graphic violence may be a justifiable element within the overall context of the work. However, in the case of Manhunt 2, IFCO believes that there is no such context, and the level of gross, unrelenting and gratuitous violence is unacceptable."

Its banned in Germany and Australia as well. Looks like it will be banned in most countries. To be the first game to be banned in ten years means it must be seriously sick. Only beastality, in porn, is stopped these days in the UK.
Jack, at least we can see naked people on UK TV..

I agree with you completly. We should be able to decide if we can veiw it or not. The bbfc are there to give it a rating, not ban it. Its unfair and dosn't make the UK look good. It makes it look like we are on a leash, which, we kind of are doing that.
I replyed to that headline. Hopefully if it gets enought people against the ban, we can stop it.

This pisses me off. Its all about 'It should be banned so kids wont get transformed into killers'. 18 means exactly what it looks like. Its only for 18 year olds or over. Not under 18. Kids arnt alowed to play this game so don't let them have it. Its the stupid parents that don't have a clue. I admit when I was like 15, my mum got me 18 games, but thats because she knew I was mature enough. She knows i'm not gona turn into a mental freak. Its quite funny coz I was about 16 when I got Manhunt and I got it from the shop on my own. I wasn't asked 4 ID. I'm 18 now and I'm always asked 4 it!
DONT BAN IT!

Default Manhunt 2 Rated as "Adults Only" for North America

...saw some news this was also banned in UK - i'm not a big time gamer, and w/ the descriptions of gameplay for this game, I'm in agreement for the "AO" rating, but being an adult I'm kinda intrigued about the motion sensing component to the Wii version - "ooh, look, i can swing my controller and beat this dude over the head" - probably not so intrigued that i'm gonna buy a wii anytime soon, but was curios what others think.

Honestly not a big fan of the first game, did not hear much about this second game until it got banned, and not AO rating? Now I am actually intrigued, I may actually buy this game, just to buy an AO rated game, honestly I wish they made more AO rated games.. could be fun.

Sorry to call you on this shin but you shouldn't have moved my thread to portables cause it's only on consoles

Threads merged.

Can you link me to a story about the PSP version being cancelled?

There is a PSP version, isn't a Blu-ray PS3 version so it makes perfect sense for it to be here.

I can see concerened parents not wanting their children playing a game like Manhunt, but to ban it outright is rediculous. There is no proof linking violent games to violent behavior. I've been playing games since I was around 6 0r 7 since the 2600 days, and have played these violent games since. Cenorship or banning certain material won't stop any violence. It's been around since the beginning of time. I use these games as a way to relieve stress, as do most people. It all comes down to parenting skills. If your taught such behavior is wrong and unjust, you will know the difference between fantasy violence and real violence. Besides if they want to ban a videogame, why not the news? There is just as much, if not more violence there, than in any videogame.

I couldn't agree more. This is exactly the problem. How can you ban a game from grown adults? Its up to them not some random people. I think it being rated AO is a great Idea. It dosen't stop adults from buying it. But banning it. Thats unfair. It should be rated 18, which is an adult in the UK. I'm allowd to Drink, i'm allowed to smoke and i'm allowed to have sex and watch porn but I cant play a video game. Its reediculuss.

NINTENDO, SONY POLICIES PROHIBIT AO MANHUNT 2

Looks like it's not getting released in the states either without modifications or a PC-only release.
