Default The Red Violin

A couple nights ago I watched The Red Violin on HDNET Movies.

I had seen this movie about ten years ago in the theater. I remember really loving the film along with it's unique story and especially the music featuring Joshua Bell as the violin solist. I have seen him perform live. He's a fine virtuoso violinist.

After watching the presentation on HDNET, I must say that the film kindled in me a desire to add it to my BD collection should it ever be released. The PQ on HDNET wasn't bad for 1080i upscaled to 1080p on my LCD. The 5.1 DD sound track although lossy audio was quite good reconsidering that this was on HD cable which doesn't always have the best SQ.

It doesn't take much to stretch the imagination and speculate on the PQ and SQ potential of this film if it were released on Blu-ray.

I really got a bit riled over reading a customer review on amazon.com for the remastered DVD edition that got released last year, the Red Violin - Meridian Collection (Remastered - WS 2008! But no BD release! ) It just makes me wonder how many uniformed people out there have similar sentiments like: "...and the picture and sound are stunning. If you play this DVD on a player that can "upconvert" a regular DVD (such as this release),the resulting image is already high definition--no need for a separate Blu-ray or HD DVD edtion. "

Like how could he even make that statement since there is no BD release to compare it to an upscaled DVD?

I will hold out, not buy the remastered DVD, and hope that it gets released on BD.
