I have a Best Buy Pioneer 5020 in my Den.
My view distance is aprox 6.5 feet. The lighting is mostly Dim (day) to cave-like (night). I am debating returning the 5020 for a Panasonic TC-P58S1 for the extra size. Is it your opinion that this would be a move that I will regret due to a loss in PQ or is the PQ loss minimal compared to the added picture size? I ask because I have never owned a set larger than 50". Thank you. |

You already have the better tv. Keep the KURO and enjoy it. The PQ loss will be enough for you to miss the KURO. If you were to go to a 60" Kuro... then no question to go with that. |

You've got the best PQ set out there (short of the Elites). If you truly want a bigger size, either get the 60" Kuro or the 58" Pany V10. The V10 will be as "close" to Kuro-quality that you can get these days.
Definitely don't return it for the S1. You'll be disappointed. |

Thanks! I do love the 5020 PQ! I wish Best Buy had 6020's in stock.

"I'd take a Panasonic 58" over a 50" Kuro everyday. The Panny's size is worth it and, frankly, it's a DAMN good picture."
Strong pitch for the Panny! Thanks. |

That's a harder question to answer than some would make it out to be.
Sure, side-by-side, your Kuro will spank the S1. Are you planning to have them side-by-side in your living room? I thought not. Put either one in your living room, properly calibrated, and I believe the large majority of people would be completely satisfied with the S1. One thing you WILL notice every time you turn it on is the much larger picture. That said, if you have any visual memory at all, and you do bring the Kuro back for the larger S1, you should probably go watch a friend's LCD for a week or so...just to wash the Kuroness out of your brain. ![]() |

I forgot to mention that I primarily use the Den Plasma for Blu Ray and 1080i Directv. That may affect opinions? Some 24p issues have been raised with the Panny. I need to search what the heck that even does for blu ray but I have read about it in some threads on avs.
Thanks! |

"where did you get the 5020? I have been looking for one and so far I've had no luck. I would keep the Kuro"
Sarge1976, I got two 5020's from Best Buy in Charleston, SC. They still have some Elite's but way to much $$$ compared to what I got the 5020's. I have one 5020 in the Den and one in a spare video game/man cave. |
