I currently have a 5.1 setup with the following:
Pioneer KRP 500m oppo bdp-83 AVR-1909 polk audio cs2 polk audio 60's polk audio 30's SB12-Plus sub Attached is a very, very crude drawing of what my setup is currently. Due to the angles, I am not sure if it is possible or not. i will try to get some pics up asap to better show the setup. the center speaker is above the TV on a shelve. I am thinking of placing the rears directly behind where I sit, but not sure if it would be worth it or not. I figure I could update it for around 100 to make it 7.1, so why not? hehe |

Well you have the receiver to do it and you can pickup a pair of 30's really cheap so I would say go for it. If I had the room for the 2 extra speakers I would do it in a heart beat.

ya, the receiver will do it...I'm just not sure it would be good or not due to the room layout. Having the rears basically right next to each other is what i'm afraid of.

It's definetely do-able. My room is set up very similar to yours and I have two rear channels in the corner. Take a look at my gallery to see how I have it set up. I've actually angles the two rears more towards the walls rather then pointing directly forward at the TV. Recently though I have been toying with the idea of replacing the two rear bookshelfs with one bipole in the corner. I was thinking this might provide the best rear soundstage as the sound would really travel along the back two walls rather then just out overhead. Adding the rear channels really helped complete the sound stage though, and I'm glad I did it.

That is very similar to how mine is set up currently, only, my 30's would be in place of your towers on the side. I like the idea of having a bipolar directly behind my head, sort of pointing out. So, would I run two cables to that one cable then I am assuming? And, hook them up as right and left into my receiver?

Check out this thread for people offering me some good info on rear bipoles: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=115579 The biggest issue I am having is trying to find a good deal on one bipole that I think will work well |
