Default Denon 4308ci Upgrade from Pioneer Elite 03

I just upgraded. I got rid of my Pioneer Elite vsx-03 and got a Denon 4308ci. Question: what is a GOOD FM antenna for it? I bought a Terk amplified antenna for the elite 03 when i had it and it sucked so i took it back to best buy. I don't see how that would make a difference if i bought it again for the denon. Anyone knows of a GOOD INDOOR antenna for an apt that has bad reception that i can buy that actually WORKS? Also, the denon is a PAIN to calibrate. Any suggestions? I don't understand it too much.

Also, i bought the harmony 890 remote and let me tell u it is no good for me. I had to always keep switching from tv to receiver control going back and forth cause u had to be on TV control device to change the channel but then when i had to mess with the volume, i had to go back to the receiver so i had to switch it again to reciever device, and back and forth just to change a channel or mess with the volume. I was thinking maybe the older less expensive models would do this since i know sometimes the more modern stuff just doesn't work as simple as the older stuff. I need some good advice here my fellow techies....talk to me

You need to check your Harmony settings. You should not have to do that.

I actually erased the remote programming entirely and did it all over and it's still doing it. I don't have a cable box connected to it so i'm not sure if that is the problem right there but it will not let me control the channel changing without having it on tv and it won't let me change the volume without having it on receiver. It is a pain.

Still doing the same thing, anyone have any suggestions?

Also again, anyone know of a GOOD INDOOR antenna for the denons FM radio? The terk powered indoor antenna is worse than the plain wire that comes with the denon for FM.

Hey thanks for the link, it is LONGGGGGGGGGGGG, looks near impossible to calibrate this thing, I still haven't got it yet lol.

Do you have the macros set up? Press one button and everything powers up inputs change to the proper ones etc.? When you have those set up, the volume is set to receiver control the channel button is set to cable box? (examples)

If you haven't done this you should. You set up the devices first, then you set up functions i.e. watch tv. Then you can set up each button for each device...there will be a volume option and you select the receiver from the drop down box so it knows the receiver controls the volume while watching tv.

Hey man thanks yes i did that 3 times already. The problem is that i'm NOT using a cable box. I have a connection running from the wall to the tv as a direct feed. No cable box. The receiver controls the volume and the tv controls the channel changing so i have to use two separate remotes to do this. Now i did what u said. It asks what controls ur volume, i say receiver, it says what controls ur channel changing and i said tv. The watch tv set up does turn on the receiver and the tv at one touch of a button but THATS where it all ends. From there, the receiver controls the volume then i have to hit the device key and switch to tv then it will change the channel, the switch back to receiver to mess with the volume. When i did that drop down menu to be able to change the channel on the receiver option, it does not give u the option to do so, so u put it on the arrow keys but it didn't change the channels. On the tv option side, i put to control volume instead of the receiver but it doesn't let me cause it doesn't come up. It's a freakin pain and i bought this 890 new.

Yeah i did this regular stuff but i read on the forums that the sound is not what it should be and u have to turn some stuff off and switch others. The self calibration sucks. I went through something similar with the elite 03 from pioneer. This is more difficult by far. There has to be a simpler way. It sounds easy to u cause u KNOW this stuff already. But u need to understand not everyone gets this technical lingo lolol.

Just run the setup and DON'T CARE about the freaks tweaking at AVSFORUM. Know that AVSFORUM is a AV freak site and they are very very 'anal' about everything. It's a great information site, but take everything with a grain of salt. The auto setup does the best to make it sound as it should. A lot of people change amps and expect it to sound like their older one and it won't. Personnally i'am very satisfied with the auto setup of my 3808ci.

Personnally i use the Internet Radio option (free). Find yourself some good channel (www.radiodenon.com), follow the setup guide (it's easy) and voila no more FM problems (i'am in you're situation with bad FM reception). Not only that but those channel are mostly publicity free..
