Default "Let The Right One In" remake cast

Quote:
Overture Films has announced the cast for the remake of last year’s hit Swedish horror flick Let the Right One In. The Americanized version, titled Let Me In, is under the direction of Cloverfield director Matt Reeves.

The already leaked lead actor is Kodi Smit-McPhee, who is playing the character Owen (Oscar in the original). Chloe Moretz has been cast as Abby (formerly Eli). The story revolves around the two preteen kids as he discovers his new neighbor and best friend is really a vampire.
Oscar-nominee Richard Jenkins is playing the girl’s guardian, a role originally named Hakan. He’s a great actor, so I’m glad he’s getting more high-profile parts.

I absolutely loved the Swedish version and it wound up being in my top 10 of 2008. If you haven’t seen it, throw it on your Netflix queue and check it out.
In the meantime, production on the remake starts in New Mexico this November.

I was kinda skeptical about a remake, but I'll see anything with Richard Jenkins, so I'm actually kind of excited about it now. Smit-McPhee is in the upcoming film "The Road" with Viggo Mortensen, which I'm really looking forward to as well. Moretz was in 500 Days of Summer.

Chloe Moretz should do the part well. Her audition was great.

I am sure it will be ok but, it will never (yes I said never) replace the original on in it's native language. the original was incredibly intense. why is everyone always making remakes and then making remakes of remakes isn't there anymore original thinking in the movie business?

I hope they don't douche this up. Even if they don't, the original will still be the best!!

Are they taking what they want from the story to make it Hollywoodized?
Chloe Moretz is too girly, as Eli is really a boy in the story.
Matt Reeves directing? I feel sick already.

Why fix something that ain't broken?
Either way, it's just a ridiculous port to the american audience.
The only reason to remake this is to make it more accescible and that will essentially dumb it down.
I expect this to be pure garbage, but I could be wrong.

What I don't understand is why people don't support the idea of remakes. Why can't the film industry do remakes without being attack for not having original ideas? Tennesse Williams' plays are still being produced many years after they were first performed. I love the idea of someone taking the same script and putting their vision to work. I think it would be badass to see Quentin Tarantino or Martin Scorsese to take the script for Casablanca and put their personal touches to it. I'm not talking about a frame for frame remake like Gus Van Sant's Psycho. The script for Psycho is different than what ended up on screen. I know that Theatre is lighting in a bottle, but so is cinema. The only difference is we can re-watch a movie.

I'm all for remakes. Actually, I don't like the term "remake" because a film is a script before it is a movie. I don't want someone to remake the finished product, but I would like to see someone use the same script.

Plus, there really isn't any orginial ideas. Let the Right One in is influenced by all the other films that came before it like any other film is.

I hope it's done right and taken care of. Not just some kid vampire movie thrown together to make a quick buck.

I seen Smit-Mcphee in person at the Premier of The Road at the Toronto International Film Festival... he's a very intelligent boy. My shot:

However I have not yet see the original. I'm still looking for it on blu-ray here in Canada but cannot find it. I will end up ordering it soon if this keeps up!

All I hope is that they follow the book more and make this movie with a way dark atmosphere. Soooooooo much was left out from the book.

I'm not really down with the name changes though. As stated above, the name Eli was because Eli was actually a boy. (Big part of the book that's missing).

I don't care who they cast as Eli, that person won't be able to top the look and performance of Lina Leandersson.

Now that's just silly. You're telling me out of the thousands (that's an understatement) of actors out there, no one can top her performance? That's balderdash!

You've never heard of someone 'owning' a role? I believe she has and did and with the track record of remakes I doubt this will touch the original. I'm just a big fan of the first film and a huge supporter of what Miss Leandersson brought to that role. Her look was perfect. To think the face at the end of the film of the replacement actress (if they retain that shot) will have as much resonance as the original is pretty daring IMO. Again, just my opinion.

You make a great argument and yes I have heard of an actor "owning" a role, but I think that's a bogus statement. There are a lot of talented actors out there that can bring something totally new and different to a role and do just as a good of job, if not better. I just think you are already limiting your enjoyment of someone else's vision of the same story. And that's just my opinion.

Lina rules but I have faith that Chloe will give a good performance.

Hopefully she'll try to bring something new to it and if she does that she can be good without making herself too comparable to Lina.

Seriously? A remake? Why does Hollywood think Americans can't read? Why not bring the original over and show it like it should have been? I don't get it. At least Reeves is directing, but I don't expect it to be any better than the original.

every once in awhile there is an exception to the rule-- I remember saying that an American version of THE OFFICE would be a travesty and I ended up liking both versions equally--

I also though THE RING and THE GRUDGE were great horror flicks....

Because Americans do not want to be bothered. Seriously. Sad, but true.
Foreign films never do well (like a blockbuster) here in the US.
