I currently have the Panasonic DMP-BD55k and so far I love it. Now when Oppo just released their player, I've been wanting to buy that for some time now. Currently all I do is play blu ray and dvd discs. So my question is, should I buy the Oppo or should I stick with the Panasonic for awhile? Questions and or comments are greatly appreciated.

If all you use it for is DVD and Blu-ray playback, I think upgrading right now would be silly (unless you're getting some ridiculously low price)
I plan on upgrading to the Oppo myself, but my motivation lays in the fact that I expect my current player to crap out sooner than later.... I also want to replace my current SACD player, and want something that I can play Region B titles with. |

I have the Panasonic DMP-BD55k, Panasonic DMP-BD80k and the OPPO BDP-83 If you are using HDMI connections
Speed the OPPO BDP-83 wins again but in real life daily use you need a stopwatch to realy notice the few seconds On the OPPO 24fps does not need to be set for each SD DVD like on the Panasonic DMP-BD55k and Panasonic DMP-BD80k, the OPPO keeps this setting |

I've found the Oppo to be a great machine but I'd say unless you want SACD/DVDA a very fine value for money option is the LG BD390. Its faster than your Panny and has extremely good picture and has a great many options including wifi. The Oppo will take an easily user installed hardware mod for multi region

Personally I'd stick with the Panasonic but it all depends how much free cash you have to spend I suppose.

When I was in the market for a blu ray player, I was a little impatient and bought the Panasonic even when I heard Oppo was still working on their player. I should have waited but I heard many good things about the Panasonic. I do have the money for the Oppo but it could be a waste of money for the time being??? I have troubles making decisions at times.

I used to be indecisive, at least I think I was. The things I like about the Oppo are its fast load time, wide variety of settings, SACD, sound quality, upscaling, remote control and the multi region mod. Blu quality is excellent but very little different from other good players. Oppo always have excellent customer service and frequent new firmware easily installed. If you're happy with your Panny for now you could wait a few months as I think it'll soon be time for some new Pannys which are bound to improve on the speed of the current models while keeping their many excellent points
