this is one website I've seen that is offering mods on a variety of players, though I don't think the samsung is one of them. The OPPO BDP-83 can also be moded for region free and the only actual region free player I've read about that is for sale is the Momitsu BDP-899. This is a link for the dvd hack for the samsung: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/samsung-bd-p1500/9441 hope this helps a bit. |

If you have a multi-system TV or you don't plan on watching special features on UK blu-rays, then you could buy a modified Sony, Panasonic, or Pioneer. Personally, I went with the OPPO and bought and installed the region free mod from http://www.bluraychip.dk/ JVB Digital is another site to buy a modified blu-ray player or DIY mod. http://www.jvbdigital.nl/jvb.asp Last edited by JurassicMass88; 09-24-2009 at 08:05 AM. |

If you don't want to spend a load of money the Curtis Mathes BD player is region free for both Blu-Rays and DVDs and is a Momitsu clone. Target has it online for $99.
Other, similar players are the Sherwood 503 and Vision Quest which Tiger direct sells -- both are about $150-$175. All three function just like the Momitsu and use the exact same region free hacks. If you want you can also put the Momitsu firmware on them (though you'd have to use a universal remote running Momitsu's remote codes if you want to use the remote after doing that). |

The mod works quite well. I got the danish mod for my OPPO, Bluraychip which made installation and use even easier...and I wasn't a big fan of the beeps. Instead of having to hear beeps when changing regions, in standby you just hit 1, 2, or 3 for Blu-ray or, for DVD, you press the green button and choose a region (0-6).
Here are the instructions: OPPO mod Overall the installation is quite easy especially if you have experience installing computer components. My only difficulty was in sliding the flat ribbon cable into the mod itself. The mod is tiny and my fingers are big so it took a little extra time. Pretty easy installation though. ![]() Quote:
