Default Misadventures in surround sound (ps3)

Lets see, I have a ps3, 40gig, a pioneer vsx-818v I got over a year ago that has been collecting dust, since I had no speaker system. Well, the other day I found a open box Klipsch quintet III at bestbuy, had some spare cash so I got them. Over the next few days, I spent the time after work trying to wire up the system, laying speaker wire, setting my speakers where I want them and so on. Well, tonight I got 4 out of 5 speakers wired, and ran out of speaker wire

Okay, no biggy, I actualy had to laugh a bit so I figured I could go ahead and set my PS3 up and give it a bit of a test. I ran the HDMI cable to the receiver from the PS3, then from the receiver to my TV, since, you know, HDMI carries audio (more on this in a few...) and called a couple people down to see, well, hear the new sound system, minus the sub and right rear speaker.

They come down, I fire up the PS3, first thing I notice was there was no sound. I figured this was a minor problem, a few button pushes later and now I am starting to get confused, so I stuck a Futurama blu in the PS3. Once it loaded. No sound.

I restart everything, go into the PS3 menu to see if something was missing, make sure the sound is being passed through the HDMI and it was. More messing around with things and still no sound.

I google things and learn basicly this receiver only has an HDMI pass through. Dang.

Now it looks as if I will have to get a Optical (toslink) cable for the sound and hope that helps. Now to find the manual (the one NOT in spanish) for my receiver to make sure it will work.

Bummer

BTW, this is my first ever attempt at surround sound. Hope this headache is worth it
