Default Anything better than TX-SR607 @$500 or less?
Well I've been on the fence about a new AV for months. Unfortunately my Sony STR-DE945 no longer will adjust volume remotely (I suspect the VOL board is bad).

I've resisted Onkyo as I've never been a huge fan and the CS seems iffy at best. However the TX-SR607 is pretty cheap now ($400 Amazon) and gets rave reviews at HomeTheater Hifi.com

Any thoughts on alternatives or a reason not to get this?
