Default Hiding Ceiling Register (Vent) & Cold Air Return

Any tips on hiding these?

Since I am painting my ceiling black I was going to go with a plastic vent for the ceiling like so:

Also I was going to purchase something like this:

For the return air and paint it dark red to blend in with the walls. Since they are paintable.

Both of these solutions should make it invisible when the lights go out, but I am curious if anyone knows of any better way of hiding these sorts of objects in a Home Theater.

Since you need them, your only options would be to paint the ones you already have (assuming they are already in place) or purchase the ones in your original message.

I cannot think of any other way around it.

I see no reason that as long as they are some kind of matte black that it wouldn't just blend right into the ceiling.

All of the previous answers are correct. Painting your existing vents or getting replacement color-matched vents is the best approach.

You don't want to obstruct or block the vents, because that can put unnecessary strain on your HVAC system's blower motors.
