Default What are the best SMALL surround speakers I can buy?

I've been looking all over trying to figure out what my best options are and would really appreciate some suggestions. Basically I'm replacing my 4 HTiaB surround speakers as their just garbage compared to the rest of my set up and yes I know to really match my other equipment I'd have to get larger speakers but I don't have the room to accommodate them. So anyone have any suggestions on some small speakers in which I can hang from the wall/ceiling? Oh ya and as far as price is concerned I'd like to keep it around $500.

I've been looking at the Polk OWM3's.

Thanks a lot.

you could go with in-wall or in-ceiling speakers for a cleaner look, Monoprice sells a decent speaker, you could probably do all 4 for under $200 with shipping.

No, I don't want in-wall or in-ceiling speakers.

Your best option for surround speakers is bipolar speakers. Here is a list of all bipolar/dipolar manufacturers.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=93873

If you are really looking for small, cute, and good quality small speakers, check ORB Audio.

The Polk FXi series speakers would match your Polk fronts very nicely.

Those are too big (7.4 x 12 x 11.4 inches) not to mention the A4's are like $450 for the pair which would run me up to over $1000 for a set of 4. My couch is basically right beside my wall with a little gap between my recliner which again is right against the wall, I sit in the middle and I want some thing with a small depth that I can angle.

Those would work but I would think the Polk OWM3 would be just as good if not better.

Thanks.

You can get the FXi A4's for $279 with free shipping from Polk Direct (eBay Store). That would put you just over your $500 budget for four of them.

Look I see your into polk audio and for home theather they are quite good with their enphasis on high frquencies.

At FS you have the Klipsch RS-10 bipole at 129$ each and the RB-10 at 199$ a pair. The are quite small and very easy to wall mount even if you don't see them in store I suggest you ask a salesman to see what they have in stock. Both of them are on liquidation price you can check out prices online you'll see.

That would be a good fit to your polks with their horn design they enphasize on highs and will be within you budget.

Here is the link to the RS-10, they don't announce the RB-10 online anymore but can be found in store.

Eagle,

I was going through the same thing last week... I was debating between the Monitor Audio BRFX at $530 taxes in (local store in montreal) OR the Axioms QS8 (made in canada) available at www.axiomsaudio.com for $583 with free shipping. I was also looking into the PSB Image S50, but those might be a little big in size for you. I went with the Axioms... I got them from Axiom's factory Outlet where theres some small blems on them and from what I was told, you can hardly even notice them.

Buying them from the Outlet saves you 10% off the reg price, so they came out at $525 CDN and free shipping ! Only thing, theres a 4 week wait periode for the next production run... good thing is this, if no blems are found, you get a new pair at the lowered price.

I don't think they are big, but you should look into them

http://www.axiomaudio.com/factoryoutlet.html 2nd's

You might want to check out the QS4's while your at it, same model, a few different specs, a little smaller and a little less $$ on the wallet! And going through the F.O. saves you approx $50 !

Thanks BigAl87 & 4x12,

the Klipsch RS10's look perfect, I'll phone around the local Futureshops and see if anyone has them in stock or even if they can order them.

4x12 those Axioms look very tempting but I'm looking to pick up 4 speakers so that would ring me up over a $1000 for the set.

I was looking online at those Klipsch RS10's and they look perfect for my needs. Wish I could demo them but Klipsch is a reputable brand right so whatever. Though per 4x12's recommendation, those Axioms look very good too. My overall options seem to be a little limited from my research though both of your suggestions look very good, so my question is which of those 2 are the better speakers?
I went with the Axiom's for a few reasons.... looks, reviews, customer service (talked with a few people before sending the order), its Canadian made, price and you also get 30 days to test it and see if it fits with your system before you decide to keep it or not.

All reviews I read and the feedback I got from users on this board and elsewhere where all positive. So for me, Axiom seemed like a good selection. If you want a better idea of what they look like, check out MarcosG's gallery, hes got pictures of his QS8's.

4x12, I just realized before your 2nd post their $525 for the pair. I'm looking to pick up 4 for all 4 surrounds so that would put me over $1000 which is a bit too high. But then again maybe I should bite the bullet as I imagine the quality would be just awesome. So frustrating....

Check on line for Mirage speakers. Incredible speakers in such a small package. Check Ebay and some of the online sellers.

I was about to say that but they are indeed worth every penny but you know it's always a bit subjuctive when it comes to audio cause it depends what you like but axiom are truly awsome and would also make a tremendous surround speaker with the polk audio.

I figured Klipsch had good price on them and would defenately be a great fit with the Polk Audio you already own and fits your budget, Other polk audio would be great if you could find some bipoles in your budget. Bipoles works best for surround spekaers you can read the bipole dipole speaker thread in the stcky section, Big Daddy has a nice writeup on em.

Sorry man, I didnt notice you needed 4 speakers... my bad. The Axioms would put you over the budget, but IMO, its better to have 2 good speakers than 4 cheaper ones. Not saying that everyone else's suggestions was bad... far from it, but you get what you pay for! I picked up 2 pairs of QS8's and should get them in 4 weeks. The reviews and feedback can't ALL be wrong! and like I said, I talked with two different guys at Axiom and both where very friendly and made sure all my questions where answered. And worst case, its gonna cost $30 to ship them back if you don't like them, so that gives you plenty of time to test them out and put them through hell!

Also, if you go through the Factory outlet and get the QS4's they will cost you $416 a pair.

Good luck with the purchase dude!

considered micro speakers?

energy c-50's are definitely a great option, and love the way they sound. been testing them out lately, and for the price and the performance, i am quite impressed by it, considering its small size as well.

Overall dimensions: 5.75 x 8.75 x 8 inches
