Default Martin Logan Source speakers $800 at Fry's!

Thought this would get drowned out in the hot deals forum, and this may help prospective shoppers for a new set. Fry's has the Martin Logan Source for $800 a speaker, which is about 1/2 price!

I haven't heard this particular model but I really love ML's pure, clean sound as long as you're in the sweet spot. It's pretty amazing. Just know that you're realistically going to need an amp with these as their impedence is 5 ohms nominal.

I checked out the Martin Logan Preface speakers at Best Buy when I picked up my TSi400s Saturday and they were very nice sounding speakers (and pretty too ), although not electrostatic. They had Source on in one of the Magnolia rooms but I didn't get a chance to demo. My 606 impedance is 6-16 ohms, Peachtree is 8 ohms, so it would be pointless anyway for either I do have a Martin Logan sub though I love the concept of the electrostatic technology, so unique. Some of my favorite speakers to dream about for sure...

I've listened to their electrosats (not extensively) and thought they sounded awesome but was really disappointed when I got up and moved out of the sweet spot. I ended up going to a technology that's really good at creating a wide sweet spot. They were out of my price range regardless but man did they sound amazing in the right spot!

Yep, a relatively small sweet spot is one of the prices one must pay for such great sound (I love my ML Spires; check out the pics in my sig!), but the sweet spot is bigger than it used to be. But for me, listening to music (seriously at least) is a solitary activity, so the size of the sweet spot matters not.

Yeah, I think if I had a music room or a secondary setup that didn't have to do double-duty they'd definitely be on my short list!

I've had ML's for over a year now and never had a problem with a "sweet spot". I guess it depends on what model you have. Summit or Spires, you will not experience a sweet spot, they do how ever require high current amps to drive them, and the Best Buy stores do not have them(the line of ML's that they are allowed to carry) hooked up to pre/pro/amps, just receivers. How they are driven and with what, makes a world of difference because they are low impedance speakers.

I have listened extensively to the ML's but I am not a fan of the Design Series, which is the Source and Purity. Their ESL series are the only Electrostats to own in my opinion. I find the Design series rather bland. The Preface on the other hand is a good speaker. They are rich and crisp sounding. Just my opinion.
