Default HD receiver

I purchased a Denon 1910 receiver the other day. I needed one that could decode hd audio. My previous one didnt. Ive hooked it all up properly, and im getting good sound though hdmi. Im not that convinced in satisfied with it. Im sure there is some tweak to get better treble..I cant find it. Also, am I getting HD sound from my blu's? I select the right audio from the settings..so I should be?!

What type of Blu-ray player are you using?

It looks like you have an older PS3 that does not bitstream lossless codecs. So, the HD decoders in your new Denon will not be used. If you set the PS3 to bitstream, it will output DD 5.1 and DTS instead of TrueHD and dts-MA. You need to set the PS3 to PCM, which forces it to do the decoding for output as multichannel PCM over HDMI.

I'll try that, thanks! How would I increase treble on the settings? I have an option to adjust the db's from the remote...

I also have an older PS3 and I have a question. My PS3 is also doing the decoding which is fine because its just as good and sounds incredible! They say the PS3 HD sound decoder is the best on the market. Anyway is there anyway in the future a PS3 firmware update will allow for the PS3 to bitstream Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HDMA or its just not possible? Anyway the PS3 does a fine job. Thanks JC

Not sure who "they" are. But, decoding is either right or wrong and Dolby and DTS won't certify decoders that are wrong. The PS3 decodes no better or worse than anyone else. All of the processing that follows is being done by the receiver, not the player.

From everything I have seen, it's a hardware issue and older PS3s will never bitstream the new codecs.

Sorry I meant overall the PS3 is still considered the best Blu-ray player on the market. Its a hardware issue that is what I thought. No big deal the PS3 is a great Blu-ray player. I was not expecting it to be this good. you can really tweak this thing.
