Default Blu-ray Add-On for Xbox Coming

From Gizmodo: Ballmer Talks Natal, Says Blu-ray Add-On for Xbox Coming

Quote:
When I asked Ballmer about adding Blu-ray to the Xbox, he said:

Well I don't know if we need to put Blu-ray in there—you'll be able to get Blu-ray drives as accessories.

I wonder what the cost will be, even at $100 it would emphasize the higher Out-of-the-Box value of the PS3.

Seems like a fail to me because I mean the PS3 already rivals the Xbox 360's price and then to add another $100 or so for a Blu-ray add-on player then which is cheaper? PS3 and it's built in as well as the 120GB HDD. So unless Microsoft lowers the price for the Xbox 360 again then I say this will help out Sony if true.

Ah, but if it's like the HD DVD drive was, it'll also work as an external BD drive for the PC, and upscale.

Might encourage MS to do more to integrate BD into windows properly.

I think people who had xbox 360 they like it
not only that sooner or later we will get the patch for bd-add drive for the pc as external bd-rom just like hddvd add on
but the thing is the price might be abit more in the begining
I doubt its under that price especially now a days the bd-rom are getting cheaper i mean under 70.00 bucks

Or Get the patch which i s comptable to the bd-roms and made it as bd- add on drive!!! just a thought

I for one would be ALL OVER THIS...then I wouldn't have to keep switching back and forth between my bdp-s350 (ps3 is in the living room) to watch movies and xbox to msg/chat w/ friends! I hope M$ goes forward with this...I don't care about cost, etc. Just give me a freakin' blu-ray player on the xbox so I can watch my movies!

This may be very appealing to people who already have a 360 and want to get into a blu-ray. why pay extra money for a standalone or 300 for a ps3, when for 100 you can get and add on to play blu-ray. From this persepctive there are alot of 360 out there that would help grow the blu-ray adoption.

no way id buy. unless im unimformed about the 360s internals, theres no way it would process or bitstream DTS:MA or True HD. Same problem the HD DVD add on had. it could only process core tracks.

that was my thought. If it wasn't already for the fact that I went ahead and bought a PS3 I would all over the blu-ray attachment for 360.

I'm quite informed about the internals...and I don't care about loseless audio in this case...it's not my main movie player in my home theater - I use the ps3 for that (which I also am not that interested in the audio aspect - though I may be in the minority, but I doubt it)...the xbox is strictly what I game on and have it in my bedroom...I'll pick up an add-on to replace my s350 day 1. Like I said, I hate having to switch back and forth between messaging and chatting with friends to watching blus. But that's just me. Audio isn't nearly as big a deal to me as video...
