Default What type of speaker cable?

i just bought an Onkyo sr 507 receiver and a pair of polk 40's for the front and a pair of polk 30's for the rear....

Thing is, i'm not certain what type of speaker cable to get. I'm looking at monoprice.com at speaker wire and i'm not sure what to get.

http://www.monoprice.com/products/su...02&cp_id=10239

Theres 12, 14, 16 and 18 gauge i'm assuming.

Also, i bought a polk audio CS2 for my center speaker

Thanks for your help

I just ready the speaker guide and i believe these are 8 ohm speakers because newegg says "Nominal Impedance 8 ohms" for the speakers. So i'm assuming 18 AWG wire because its not that far for the speakers to travel

So 18 gauge wire should be good up to 32 feet away from the receiver with a speaker rated at 8 ohms....

Someone please tell me if i'm reading this correctly

The difference in price is so small that you should get 14 gauge just in case you decide to change speakers in the future.

As always, if you're going to run the wires through the wall, make sure they are CL2 rated.

For the life of me I do not understand why people recommend such small wire gauges. The AVR/Amp is a pwr source and the speaker is the load. The smaller gauges have a higher resistance thus creating a higher loss.

Here are the resistances of 18awg through 10awg (per 1000ft, divide by a 1000 to get per foot):
18 7.95 ohms
16 4.99 ohms
14 3.14 ohms
12 1.98 ohms
10 1.24 ohms

I always recommend 12awg at a minimum. I have the numbers all the way through 2000Kcmils(MCM)
