Default Question on sound/volume level

Just recently rented several BD movies and played them.
Samsung BD-P1200 is the player and Samsung 1080P 46" TV
We were watching while treadmill exercising, etc. and had a low amount of external noise in the room. It seemed like we could not hear the movies at all without turning the volume all the way up. It would not go any further, and still had trouble hearing all the words. The music seemed fine,

Has anyone else experienced this?

Never experienced BD while on a treadmill, no!

So your music is normal/loud and the voices are quiet. Are you hooked up to a reciever/surround sound, or using the speakers from the TV? What audio track are you using, DD5.1 or PCM?

Sorry, fairly new to BD and inexperienced in all that jargon.

Hooked up and using the TV only. HDMI cable. No other cables, etc. attached.

I think there is a setting on the TV for the sound, but have left all that (I believe) at the default settings.

Just to help clarify !!

We normally can listen to the TV while on the treadmill, but will turn the volume up. Without treadmill going, can listen at a level of maybe 30-40. When treadmill is going (and we walk, not run, on it) will have to boost to level of maybe 70.
--
With the BD discs, we had to boost the level to 100 and that is the max. And still seemed like it was hard to hear the voices. However, the intermittant other sounds, mostly the music, seemed to be loud enough or too loud.

Sounds to me like the HDMI is trying to pass multi-channel while it should be sending just stereo to the TV. If you can't change the setting on the player, run the analog (red & white RCA's) from the player to the TV and you should have normal audio. If you have all the settings set properly, check the display's audio settings. The fact that the voices are very muted suggests that the signal is looking for a center channel - which isn't there.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Will check it all again tonight. Been having other issues with the BD discs not playing properly and may have a firmware update coming, but not sure if it is newer than the one we loaded when we bought the unit. Samsung tech didn't seem real clear on whether there was a newer firmware, but is sending one on disc by mail. (see other post on BD-P1200 in the hardware section).

Thanks again.

Don't play the sound track which is Dolby or TrueHD. Try one of the other soundracks.

You can try a regular DVD in the player and see what happens.
