Default Volume level question

HI all, long time lurker first time poster (be kind please ) I have a question and not even sure this is the right place, I have a sony bdx-1000 ( i think its one that was a "costco" exclusive) a phillips 1080p lcd connected via hdmi and then I watch a blu (or any movie for that matter) the talking is really low and everything else is way loud. Is there something I am missing in the set up. Sound is set as hdmi priority. Any held would be appreciated so my wife doesnt make me get rid of it since she cant stand it.

Brian

I am very familiar with that player as that's the one I suggested my parents end up purchasing for their casual movie watching. I know exactly what you are talking about too.

I first want to know if your TV can decode Dolby Digital??

And welcome to the board.

I suggest checking the manuals for the player and the TV to see if either device has a volume leveling setting. It may be called something like "late night mode" or "dynamic range compression."

First welcome to the board brian. hmmm. first how is everything connected and second make sure that your center speaker is connected correctly this seems silly but may be the culprit

i should add my reciever (like 4 or 5 yrs old now) is a Technichs brand and speakers are Audiosource, no hdmi inputs, just digital and coax and dont have the rear speakers hooked up as my wife cant stand any wires. Most of the time though just have it going though the tv and same thing happens as well.
