Default Samsung BD-P1200 received an excellent review for picture quality in the August 2007

The Samsung BD-P1200 received an excellent review for picture quality in the August 2007 Perfect Vision magazine. The review starts on page 67. Since this Samsung players street price is only around $50 more expensive then the Sony BDP-S300 this is in away a better player to own. For the extra $50 the Samsung has an Ethernet jack and true HDMI 1.3 interface which the Sony lacks. The Sony might have more quality control when playing back BLU-RAY discs.
The review was not perfect, even after the latest firmware update the player had dropouts and pauses after 5 minutes and then the disc starts over from the beginning.
Quote from page 68 for the Samsung BDP-1200 review
“As I played various discs in the BD-P1200, it froze once in a while, requiring me to turn the power off and on. This was an intermittent problem, never repeating at the same spot on a given disc. Also, the audio sometimes cut out-again, intermittently and not predictably. When I informed Samsung of these difficulties, they sent a second player, which seemed to work fine- although it did lose audio once while displaying the menu of Mission Impossible III on BLU-RAY.”
Bottom line
Quote 2
“Overall, I was highly impressed with the BD-P1200’s performance, especially the razor-sharp detail. True, the intermittent crashes and audio drop-outs exhibited by the first review did not inspire confidence, but the second unit didn’t have these problems. It seems that Samsung has produced a fine player the second time around.”
