Default Hd-dvd Bullitt Gets Bad Review For Terrble Picture Quality

Both HD-DVD and BLU-RAY movies can have either excellent or poor picture quality depending on many different factors. Here is a quote from the May 2007 issue of Home theater magazine on page 100 for the review of the HD-DVD version of BULLITT

HD-DVD Bullitt (review)

Quote
“Although the box says the picture is 2:40:1, it is in fact 1.78:1 (not even the original aspect ratio of 1:85:1). Regardless, the picture quality is terribly poor. It has a bit more detail than the DVD versions, but not much. It’s one of the softest HD DVDs I’ve seen. It’s also very noisy. The audio is Dolby Digtial Plus, but in 2.0 guise. It’s not great, but I’ve heard worse.”

I am sure the BLU-RAY edition of Bullitt has the exact same picture quality as the HD-DVD version. My point is some times studios release excellent quality BLU-RAY and HD-DVD titles and other times studios mess up and release titles on HD-DVD and BLU-RAY with lower quality or terrible picture quality. The DVD format has the same problem. Some DVD movies are excellent quality while others have what some would consider a poor picture quality.

Crap, I still haven't opened mine now I don't know whether I should return it or not. Is it that bad?

BTW the DVD release is 1.85:1, is this really 178:1 on Blu-ray?

I am sure it’s a little bit better then the DVD version. This is just one title that Warner appears to have done a poor job on both the HD-DVD and BLU-RAY version. I have not seen the movie myself.
This is an older movie also. Everyone has a different opinion on what is good quality and what is not. Click on the link below for the BLU-RAY version that received 4 stars for video quality by High-Def Digest

I have Bullit on Blu. The car chase is fantastic. I am just glad they have the movies captured on high def digital as the film is deteriorating.

The special features are fantastic. If you love McQueen I can recommend the film on that basis alone. (They are in SD, but are quite extensive.)

If you look at the preview for the movie on the disc and compare it to the blu feature you will be astonished at the difference in quality. I wonder if they make the previews sub-standard quality? There are a few scenes in the movie tyou can tell it is better than SD but overall it is probably very similar. I can't really say for sure. I am happy I made the purchase.

I have the Bullitt BD and have to say I was very disappointed with the picture quality. As has been said, it's very soft, but does improve on the previous DVD version, although the gains are small, to be honest.

It certainly is far from the best Blu-ray in my collection, and is the first that I felt a bit ripped off by.

don't know what all the complaining's about---Bullitt was made 41 years ago and the Blu Ray version makes it look like it was shot yesterday (with the exception of the fact no one has a cell phone or a computer)
