I recently purchased brand-new, a Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blue-ray player. If I connect it via HDMI cable to my Yamaha Receiver (RX-V565), I get sound, but no Video on my Panasonic HDTV (connected via HDMI to the receiver). Anything else connected to the receiver works fine. If I connect the blu-ray player directly into the TV, bypassing the receiver, I do get video.
So, the receiver works and the blu-ray player works, except when they are connected together. I have checked & swapped all cables, tried every available HDMI port, etc. I have updated the firmware on the Panasonic blu-ray to the latest version. The Yamaha is already up-to-date. When I have them connected together, and I turn on the blu-ray player, it goes through it's initial startup and flashes HDMI on the LCD, indicating it has detected an HDMI device to connect with. Yet, I get audio, but no video on the TV. The TV is not 1080P, as it is 3 years old. Do I have a resolution matching issue? Anyone ever seen anything like this or have any suggestions? TIA, Al Last edited by albracco; 10-19-2009 at 03:37 PM. |

I've have read the manual. The only thing that possibly applies is the mention of video signals not being supported, but other devices display video properly.

The 24p was already turned off.
My guess was that the receiver was detecting the blu-ray at 1080p and outputting the video at the same resolution, which the TV won't support (max 720p). I changed the HDMI resolution on the Panasonic blu-ray from auto to 720p. I changed the receiver settings for HDMI resolution to 720p. But still no picture on the TV. Anyone have any other ideas? Does the TV show any signs of getting a signal? |

Yes, audio works.
Picture: nothing but a black screen. |

That's easy, just go out and buy a new 1080p TV. Look at it as doing your part to stimulate the economy.
![]() Just kidding of course. Did you try displaying the input signal information on page 23 of your manual? It says it will display HDMI errors if there are any. |

Between the DVD player, Receiver and HDMI card for the TV, I've already spent over $700 towards stimulating our economy. All because my old DVD player broke!
Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried what you suggested. It does not show any errors, but it does show the video in/out as 1080P, even though I have changed the blu-ray settings to supposedly force it to 720p. When I turn on the blu-ray, I can notice a very slight flicker of white pixels near the bottom of the tv screen, but then nothing - black screen. Do you think I'm on the right track that the receiver is outputting in 1080p even though I have set it to use 720p? And that is why the TV doesn't have a picture? BTW, when I do the HDMI error test on HDMI1 (my HD cable box), it shows HDMI video in/out at 1080i. Last edited by albracco; 10-25-2009 at 09:04 PM. |

crackinhedz: yes, yes, yes
djc11369:You're right about where I set the 720p, but that's because in advanced setup, you can't actually change the resolution, just choose "init", which supposedly puts the settings back to the default. |

djc: yes, monitor check is set to skip. You have to do that in order to be able to change the upscaling resolution.
Crack: All component cables have been removed. Is that excerpt from the blu-ray manual? rpatt: The HDMI card is fine, as the cable box through the receiver to the TV works fine. And I get video on the TV from the blu-ray player if I connect the blu-ray directly to the TV HDMI card (bypassing the receiver). Al |

my last and final "guess" would be the bluray player option: RGB - Normal or Enhanced.
I know in the past, yamaha model receivers had trouble with extended RGB limits, perhaps you have it on enhanced and needs to be normal?? again, just a guess. Other than that, sounds like youve tried just about everything that would cause these symptoms. ![]() ![]() |

Crack: I'll check that. That user manual excerpt in your previous message - where was that from?
Thanks for all the help! Al |
