Default Yamaha Receiver Question

I have just received an award from my company that allows me to go on to a website and select my own "prize". The one item that really caught my eye was the Yamaha RX-V861 7.1 channel receiver.

I have never owned a Yamaha receiver and was wondering if anyone can tell me anything from their own first hand experience. The reviews that I am reading for this receiver are all favorable, but again...nothing beats first hand experience.

If anyone owns this receiver or a similar Yamaha receiver and can provide me with some feedback I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

I own the Yamaha RX-V1700 and have it mated to a PS3 via HDMI.
I absolutly love the machine and can think of absolutly no reason why you'd not love it as well.

The only thing you might consider is that it's HDMI port is 1.2, but if that's not important to you, I'd say go for it.

Just my two cents....

Let me ask you this then.....since I would be connected to my PS3 as well, is the 1.2 really going to affect the performance if the PS3 can do the decoding itself? Or is there something else to 1.3 that I am not understanding?

If a PS3 is your bluray player then it doesnt matter if your reciever is HDMI 1.2 or 1.3 The PS3 does all the decoding and will never be able to bitstream audio signals becuase of its chipset. Get the reciever, it should do almost anything you need it to.

+1

Knowing you're planning on using a PS3... go for it. You'll be happy you did.

The other prize that I had to pick from was the Sony BDP-S300! I figured the receiver was the better deal considering how much it retails for.....and i do not yet have an audio system to fully enjoy my Blu-ray movies *tear*

yeah, the yamaha is the better choice.

Even the Yamaha RX-V661 is a killer system...the 861 is a step up.

You'll love it.
