I have read the review on here and noticed video was a 4.7. now to me thats a pretty damn good transfer. So I finally purchased it this past week and watched it. I think the video quality is HORRIBLE. The colors are WAY to saturated and the whole movie was unnecessary grainy. And after reading the review on here i had high expectations. Im running a PS3 to 40" 1080p Sony Bravia only 1 month old.
SO i have two questions.... -Is there and possibility of a bad disc? (yes it was THAT bad imo) im not sure if there is such a thing as that but if their is i will exchange -Does anyone else agree with my opinion on the disc and that its just a bad transfer in genral |

The PQ is exceptional. It's possible you haven't calibrated your monitor, and perhaps you have the sharpness turned too far up?
Another possibility is that you equate film grain with poor PQ and were expecting something more along the lines of a movie shot with HD cameras. |

Just to throw in my two cents worth but I also think the PQ for The Patriot is pretty good. The red of the British uniforms and the many flags jump out. Considering that it is a historical period piece the director was probably going for color saturation.

Cars can look pretty dang good on an uncalibrated set, where a movie like The Patriot might not. That said, The Patriot is an outstanding looking movie. |

well exactly, I based my calibration comments off of the OP's comments about colors and grain. calibration is a serious issue amongst many HDTV owners who have no clue what it is. they normally just naturally eye things out while some don't even bother changing the default settings. some people have sharp turned way up thinking it makes the image sharper, etc. this is clearly a hardware issue either player or tv and not the movie disc.

Even on my old 50" Tosh 4:3 RPTV running component at 1080i this BD looks impressive! On my Panny display? Priceless!
