Default red/blue 3-D "Coraline" is Horrible Quality

I just watched the movie "Coraline" in the 3D mode and found it was just horrible in quality. I adjusted my 52" Sony Bravia XBR as per the instructions on the Blu-ray disc.

The colors and clarity was terrible. Had to switch to 2D after about 15 minutes. The colors in 3D was pretty well non-existent. In 2D all was well in color, clarity and quality.

Why bother with a gimmick like 3D unless they (studios) can do it properly?

Personally I think is the best of the bunch of 3D movies out there.

Journey gave me headaches and I couldn't finish it.

Coraline in 3-D looked good when the effect worked, but it was a chore to finish the entire movie. I had a dull ache for a few minutes afterwards.

Me and my gf did the same thing as well..

I loathe the new 3D fad. I much prefer a sharper image with more color depth. I find the 3D effect adds nothing to a movie. I'll wait untill the technology improves.. it still has a lonnnnnnnggg way to go.

Agreed.
The only movie I've seen TRULY benefit from 3D is Final Destination 3D. Entertaining movie, not the best movie though. But still, the 3D in theaters is the BEST 3D I've ever seen. It popped out of the screen so far and the colors were accurate and looked great!!! I saw it in Dolby Digital 3D.
The 3D on the Blu-Ray is obviously not so good, but the 3D in the theaters was well worth paying every cent!

Did you see Coraline 3D in theaters? Because it was anything but horrible...

What....? It doesn't have a long way to go at all. The new 3D Blu-Ray spec provides a full 1080p image to each eye without any loss of color. It's an astounding 3D effect, much better than any 3D experience you've ever had in a theater. I recommend going to your nearest Sony Style store to check out the demo.

Well that's what happens when you use the red cyan 3-D system for non black and white movies.

Default 3D "Coraline"

I used the 3D glasses that came with the movie. What is a person supposed to do?

Its home 3D.

Do you have an example of a home 3D movie with excellent picture quality (colors, contrast, etc.) to compare Coraline to?

This was once my stance too, and still is in reference to home 3D. BUT if you experience the new REAL-D presentations your opinion will change really quickly.

You need to get the "mirror" (silver) finish glasses.......color is much better with them.

watched 2D first, then put on 3D. i wasn't blown away, but thought it was good. i just think it all comes down to what you're willing to sacrifice for the 3D effect, and whether you even value the 3D effect or not.

edit: how were your lighting conditions? the darker the better...
since the BD gives us 2D and 3D, i really don't feel in a bind, so what do i have to lose? and when i watched Coraline in 3D, it wasn't just the "wow" scenes (where things fly out of the screen), but much of the film just has the 3D effect (example: coraline standing on her porch: the 3D effect of the porch was clear to me: the railingi of the porch was in front of the house door). like i said, i don't think its the best thing since sliced bread, but i look at it like "cool, a free option if i want it"
