Default Help me "plug-in" my TOTEM

I bought some TRIBE 1 speakers last week

I will be putting them up on the wall in the next few weeks. I just opened the box this morning to have a look at them.

They are 4 connectors in the back... Do I need to plug in all 4? Is there such a thing as a wire speaker that splits in 4?

I put in a picture of a different TOTEM speaker.. but the back looks the same

Hows that for a beginner question!

Thanks again

Hi Daniel,

All Totems, and indeed most speakers (but not all), have 4-way binding posts. Most people utilize only 2 as they are NOT using a Bi-wire or Bi-amp configuration.

Since the benefits of bi-wiring and bi-amping are debatable, I would suggest you not even go there and just plan on using 2 out of the 4 posts. It is important to remember that you MUST keep the removeable metal connector plates in place.

Totem, for my Sttaf speakers, recommends that you use a diagonal connection method. This however may not be the case for your Tribes. Either way it does not really matter.

Thanks John..

Just to make sure...

by diagonal connection... I would plug in the top left black and bottom right red? (or vice versa) ?

Keep the metal connectors in place? So I plug in 2 posts (red & white) and leave the other as is?

Thanks again

Dan

Correct! Make sure that whatever method you use that it is the same on the other Tribe (you bought 2 right?).

John

EDIT: I have mine connected BLACK/Top and RED/Bottom.

They are a great on-wall speaker indeed. I actually heard them yesterday while visiting my regular audio shop.

Well solarrdadd, you know I've been waiting a long time to find another Totem owner on this place, so I wanna help as much as I can. It's nice to know I am no longer the only one! Although now of course, my exclusivity status is gone! LOL!

I'm wondering if there's any actual reason for using a diagonal connection. Seems like this would work for every 4 way posted speaker and wondering why more don't recommend it if it does affect quality.

I've tried all 3 methods, diagonal, top only, bottom only.... and I haven't heard a difference. I use the diagonal method only because they suggested it.

Ahhh, thanks! I was wondering because if there was even a slight improvement I was going to try it on my Polks.
