I would probably say you would 1080i if your TV can handle a 1080 signal.

Generally speaking, you want to send a 1080i signal to 1080p displays and 720p signals to 720p displays. The idea is to send a signal as close to the native resolution as possible since most tv's have a difficult time scaling the image to the right resolution.
