As a newbie who really doesn't want 5.1 speakers and cables all over the place - I have a pretty small living space - do these new Sound Sticks stand up enough as a good but compromised option?
I've got a great LG 42" HD tv - and it's built in sound really is good - I'd just like to get it a little better for virtual rear sound. Last edited by Chris H; 11-07-2009 at 02:39 PM. |

Welcome to the forums, Chris H.
![]() Sound bars are a mixed bag. Either you will really enjoy it, or be wanton for an upgrade. Of course, the space-saving aspect of them is probably their largest draw. Polk Audio and Yamaha offer some decent soundbars. You'll get a moderate amount of stereo seperation with one, and if you can use a subwoofer with it, you can get decent low-frequency reproduction. They won't provide true surround sound, but can simulate it depending on your room's wall configuration (reflective sounds). |

Hello Chris H. and welcome.
I noticed that in the latest edition of Home Theater Magazine, they give some of their top picks of the year. In the Best Speaker category, the Polk SurroundBar 360 DVD Soundbar speaker received an Honorable Mention. Something to consider for yourself. |

Hi Chris H and welcome to the forum!
Rob J hit it pretty much dead-on. They're an alternative if a seperate speaker option is not possible. seanfarley2 uses a soundbar in his bedroom, so you may want to ask him. John |

Cheers guys - love the quick responses! And yeah I meant 'soundbar' not 'soundstick'.
I'll see what sean has to say! (But I guess it really is subjective isn't it?). |
