I read this and I want it to share w/you guys....
The 300 film is a metaphor for the format wars -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After watching 300 on HD DVD, I noticed some interesting parallels between the film and the high definition video format wars. HD DVD is represented by the Spartans with their crimson colors, free thinking and a disciplined and defined goal. Free thinking and choice go hand-in-hand. I would expect that most HD DVD owners bought into a HD DVD player because they wanted to and not because their gaming system forced it upon them. Many complained about MS not including a HD DVD drive in the Xbox 360 instead making it a add on. This gave people a choice of adding on a HD player in the future if they so desired. HD DVD has a defined format and goal. The HD DVD format definition is solid and, therefore, more organized and effective. And who can argue that the glorious crimson bestowed upon each Spartan warrior does not resonate with the HD DVD red colored case. That means, of course, BD is represented by the Persian army with its enslaved soldiers, massive numbers and a "kind" king. Everyone who bought a PS3 was enslaved by Sony to be a soldier for the format war instead of doing the right thing and giving people a choice of adding on BD player later. Sony figures you just spent $600 on a game system with no games. What else you going to do with it? Millions of PS3s out there with nothing else to do except carry the BD banner by playing BD movies due to the lack of game titles. But, Sony is a "kind" king. They only have the consumers best interests at hand. More space will mean more extras and better audio and picture quality. Sony is a kind company. Better DRM will protect the format and encourage others to follow meaning more content for BD consumers. Sony is a kind company. The PS3 is a high-end computing platform with cutting edge technology at a very affordable price. You will find Sony generous. Those above are the major points but there are also some more parallels worth mentioning: - Did anyone think of Disney when they saw Ephialtes in that stupid uniform with that pointy wizard hat? That is the first thing I thought of is he was some kind of goofy looking Mickey Mouse in Fanatasia. Funny thing is that Disney was on the side of HD-DVD in the beginning and then turned to BD. - HD DVD players vastly outnumbered by the BD players are still holding ground just like the Spartans against the massive Persian Army. - Xerxes is always trying to cut deals to make up for the lack of effectiveness of his army just as Sony is cutting deals with retailers, etc. to push the BD format - Xerxes is always asking and telling Leonidas to surrender saying the war will be over soon, you can't win, my army is too big, etc. Sound familiar? - Spartan men get all the hot women just like HD DVD owners. So, I am sure that many of you BD boys won't like what I just wrote and probably won't watch 300 ever again for fear of the ideas I have presented hear reverberating in your mind as you watch the valiant Spartans fight in the name of free thinking and the dawn of a new age. But, as King Leonidas might say if he was head of HD DVD promotions group, "You have many game consoles, Sony. But few players" heres the link if you want to read more ..lol http://forums.highdefdigest.com/show...61#post242161:) |
