Personally, I would've liked to have seen what they could've done with the material, especially since they were interested in being more faithful to the manga than doing a direct remake.

I'm also not opposed to remakes on principal. I prefer to wait till I actually see the movie to form an opinion as to whether it's a good remake or a bad one. Who knows, this could've been what The Departed was to Infernal Affairs, or what The Magnificent Seven was to The Seven Samurai.

We'll never know.

I was also kinda excited to see the remake. I didn't really like the first one, so I was hoping this might be more enjoyable..... and look better on blu

The original does not need to be redone, I don't care if they said it was just the manga they were basing it on or not.

OldBoy is one of a handful of films that I would label as PERFECT films. There are just some films that are perfect the way they are, and should not be messed with.

I was at least a bit intrigued when Nicolas Cage was rumored to be wanting to do it, because he definitely has that....thing that can convince you he's the right type of guy for this film. You could almost see him in the situations, and he's proven in the past he can play someone that's just bugnuts crazy, which is what Oh Dae Su becomes after 15 years locked up like that.

Plus he's got a strong afinity for Korean culture (and his wife, I believe, is Korean).

So I could at least be secure in the fact that he would do everything he could to NOT f*ck it up.

And I'm about as big a Will Smith apologist as you're gonna find, but I would be pretty upset if they messed with this movie.

I'm already mad they're doing the Karate Kid remake. lol

Justin Lin should have done his remake though. I think he would have been faithful to it.
