Default Best Car Speakers and Subs

What would you reccommend brand wise for car speakers. I want a nice sub in the trunk or something and maybe new speakers in the car. I have BOSE right now but they arent good enough.

Sam

Looking for less than 3000 bucks. And having nice appearence.

I would get Focal for your highs and and JL for your subs.

Go old school for your amps. The stuff from the 90's performed great and looked slick. Search around!

US Amps
Earthquake
Soundstream
MTX Terminator (made by PPI)
Precision Power

JL is making some pretty nice amps as well.

Something like this for your sub.

And something like this for your highs.

If you're looking at the stuff I mentioned, you are starting to get over 3000 dollars though...

These are crazy good.

Chances are your Bose will do a fine job with the hi-midrange. What kind of head unit do you have?

For component sets I personally love MB Quart.

Amps: Zapco, Xtant, US amps, Linear Power, Precision Power, Hi Fonics, Orion, Earthquake and many others. Just depends on $$ and if you don't mind looking for amps that are no longer produced.

Subs: JL audio, Kicker, Orion, Earthquake, Cerwin Vega Stroker, Rockford Fosgate, Etc......

There is a lot of good stuff out there and vary in price.

If you go big check the size of your altenator and battery.

Check out Rainbow for your mids and highs. The Germaniums are amazing and around $450, and the SLC's are great as well for around $250. Image Dynamics makes some good subs, as do Elemental Designs.

Its an infiniti qx4. ALL BOSE. I just dont like the bass when its high. MY HT sound better! Do you need a trunk sub? For major bass that can be heard from a mile away?

Do you want it to be heard from a mile away, or do you want it to sound accurate? Either way, a separate sub is preferable. There's only so much bass you can get out of a 6.5" speaker.

I want it to sound good. I want the bass to be heard though. And not have my SUV rattling to death. Just want clearer and better than the BOSE by a lot. How do i find what size to get? I cant just rip out the other one and put a bigger one in...

You'd probably be alright with a single twelve if it's got decent output. You could also do two tens. In an SUV you don't need as much output as you would in a trunk since it's pretty open. If it were me, I'd probably get a JL Audio 12W6 in a custom box with a JL 500/1 amp.

On Cruthfield's website they should still have a " find what fits" your car page. It will tell you what size components to get.

If it were I. I would get :

1) new head unit ( Alpine or Eclipse)

2) new component sets and amp/s

3) two 12" or 15" subs and amp (mono or bridged mono) (maybe even 3 12" subs)

To not have it rattle you are going to need to strip your car interior and get sound dampening material (spray or sheets) I once helped work on a 1980 something Mercury cougar that had 272 pounds of cement in the trunk. Hard to believe but true. It was featured in "CAR STEREO REVIEW" magazine. Owner: Louis "Bud" Wentz

Polk makes dam good car subs too!

....also, you might want to push each sub with individual amps.

depending on how many amps/watts you draw from your altenator you may need to beef it up. I have gone through a few altenators myself and have seen many toasted altenators. I would get a new battery with more CCA if you plan on jammin when your car is not running.

I've always liked jbl mids and tweets, preferably components for the seperation, and if you're on a budget i liked rockford fosgate subs , good subs at a decent price. Also like some have mentioned if you want clear, the head unit makes a difference. Back in the day I always used Alpine pre amp head units. The sound is clearer due to the amps powering the speakers and not the radio itself. Alpine also has very clean amps.
