Default Some people shouldn't be allowed to own pets

So I hear my coworker complaining about how her son's dog is a hassle and chews everything up and she wants to give it away. This is the same coworker that rather annoys me.

So today she says that since she couldn't find anyone to take the dog she's going to drop it off at the animal shelter.

Then she talks about a NEW PUPPY she just got.

The dog she gave away is only about a year old.

WHY DO THEY LET PEOPLE LIKE THIS HAVE DOGS?

Yeah people like that drive me nuts.

I own a Siberian Husky and most people get rid of them after a year or 2 because they are such a high energy breed..

People should apply for licenses to have pets.
So many expects animals to be yamagotchi pets or something...

That's awful. I've rescued and found homes for several dogs over the years. I have one right now that I never could find a home for.... so she's mine now. But when I first got her she chewed EVERYTHING cordlike that was outside the house. She chewed the power cords off of a power washer and a brand new weedeater. She even chewed one of the satellite cables off the outside of my house. Her new thing now is digging massive holes in the yard trying to catch moles. I've never once considered taking her to a shelter.

My current dog was from the shelter. Someone didn't want him . We love him though!

Seriously having a pet is not a right, it's a privilege. I would be all for requiring a license to own a pet.

Yeah, I wish some serious licensing was involved in owning dogs, because I swear there are people out there who just love having new things, including puppies. So once a dog gets too big and stops getting attention from strangers, it's time to start over with a new baby dog again for people to ooh and ahh over.

I got my dog from a shelter. He's half pug, half mystery. He basically looks like a pug, without the crunched face. So even though he's about 12 years old now, his small size and the structure of his snout makes him look like a puppy.

As a dog lover myself this makes me sick and angry. Sadly, people like this have kids sometimes a s well and we wonder why they are messed up.

Yea, I recently had to let go of a pair of dromaeosaurids I had raised - it was getting too big for my house and was also getting out of hand. Trying to eat my visitors and whatnot.

I mean, here they are trying to eat one of my little cousins.

I had no choice but to put them down. One almost tried to eat me! Got to my partner, Muldoon, though. Hurt me to put them to sleep.

When my wife and eventually buy a home we agreed that we would save two more dogs from the shelter. I actually want to start doing volunteer work for them since one of my wife's old coworkers does it too.

I'm sorry for your loss JJxiv1215, Muldoon was a great guy. If only Grant had given him the same advice he gave to that kid about them attacking from the sides, Muldoon might still be here today. Life finds a way...

Our cats had kittens and we gave them away. One lady brought hers back. Reason: It was too affectionate!

It's her fault if the dog is chewing up her stuff.
Either he is not getting enough exercise or play time and is just plain bored or she did not "raise" him right.

We had 2 boxers (both full of energy) and when they started to get ideas like that (chewing, scratching on the couch etc) we take them out play for about 20 minutes and tire them out. Then also teach them the things they are allowed to do and what they are not allowed to do. It's rather simple with scolding them or a small fling on the nose if they are really naughty, but they do learn... especially if they are still young! All they need is to see where the boundaries are.

People like the OPs co-worker make me sick and they are the reason so many animals get returned or abandoned every year!
