I'm looking at upgrading my standard def system. Right now, I'm looking at screens. The thing that bothers me though and one that could even prevent me from even upgrading, is what seems to be the issue of studios not putting their best foot forward on transfers. To me, if you are going to offer hi-def hardware like 1080P screens and Blu-Ray, then EVERY and I mean every film needs to be restored. Not just some remaster job. I'm talking like what they did with the Bond stuff, the Wizard Of Oz, Singing in the Rain. I'm reading way to many reviews that, although say the image is better and sharper, still go along way from saying the transfer is prestine. This concerns me greatly. The studios did this with dvd and as pathetic as that was, the resolution wasn't as critical as you have with this new technology. Now we truely have the resolution and if you put crap in, that's what it's going to show you.
