Default Suggestions to replace aging Pioneer CSD9900 15" speakers?

Hi folks. I'm looking to replace my old Pioneer CSD9900 15" speakers and wanted some suggestions. I do like the larger size but probably need to upgrade soon. Info appreciated. I'm kind of new to all of this so i don't know what to look for when buying speakers. Never really done it!

Go listen to different brands & see what sounds best to you . That is what you want to do . Auditioning them is best thing to do .

Please give us an idea of what your budget is and whether or not this is for towers and/or bookshelf speakers. Also, is this for 2 front speakers or a whole 5.1 setup.

You could replace them with a pair of B&W 801D's. They have a 15" driver in them. I think will run you about $20-25K for the pair. You will then need to get them some REALLY good amps to pair with them. Probably another $10-20K for four (4) Classe CA-400 monoblocks.

I think that should get you smiling after everything is all set up.

Stop the bus kids. I'm not looking to spending anything that has a k after it. Haha. I'm looking like sub $500 for the pair. Floor speakers. Someday I would like to have the high end ones but that's just not in my budget now. THanks!

I'd suggest you start following some of the speaker threads here, like Polk, Axiom and the like. Many members here own them and are very happy with their performance.

I was mostly joking because you did not put a budget.

Though that is a really nice setup if you have the cash.

+1

Look around at the various threads on specific brands. Here is a thread with a list of speaker companies.

Finally, it is best to listen to them before buying, especially online. Listen local. Then buy online.

Also, what electronics will you be using to drive the speakers?

Of course there are these on sale for $600 a pair http://www.wwstereo.com/website/ecom...C-30%20ROSENUT

Or you can upgrade the entire front setup for about $330 with these http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo...variation=SCHE and this http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=ENCC50

+1, make sure you do it right as-well, places like bestbuy while there might be a select few bestbuys that have their speaker sections set up right a majority of them won't, so my advice would be try finding a audio video store around you and work from there.

As stated the best thing to do is audition to see what speakers you like, they all sound different, and then you will also know whether you like Warm, Bright, or Forward sounding speakers. Larger drivers like your 15" ones aren't as common anymore. Lou showed you some really expensive speakers, there are some Dali Concept 10s and Concept 8s that use a 10" and 8" woofer respectively, but you are looking at about $1600/pr on the 10s and $12-1300 on the 8s. Fantastic sounding speakers, but below you say your in the $500 range.
I would say for speakers that are easy to plug into what you may currently have, stay with 6 or 8 ohm speakers. Most of your surround sound receivers can drive them efficiently.

What % of movies to music application are these speakers going to take on? 50/50, 70/30?

Depending on your local bestbuy, they may not have that wide of a selection, and the listening environment may not be very good either. as was previously stated.
There are options for speakers at the $500 and below range, definetly not as open as you would be at the $900 range, but here is a list of some that you could at least try to audition, for location to audition, click on the find a dealer/where to buy and input the appropriate information for locations near you. Be sure to negotiate also.

Monitor Audio BR5s $550/pr list http://www.monitoraudiousa.com/products/bronze-br
Energy C-300 List $550, discontinued and can be had for $260 http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo...variation=SCHE or go here for a dealer www.energy-speakers.com
Kef C5 http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it...f-c5-black-ash or here for a dealer http://www.kef.com/us
PSB Image T45 $479 listed here https://dmc-electronics.com/Default.htm or go here for a dealer http://www.psbspeakers.com/
Paradigm Mini Monitors http://www.paradigm.com/en/paradigm/...-1-14.paradigm

Good luck and enjoy shopping.
