Default Casablanca: play it again Sam, Feb 2010... With different cover art?

WTF, another single-disc release of Casablanca? I thought this already came out in the US...

Can someone fill us in on whether this will be different in terms of specs from the version that was out a while ago... Or the transfer featured on the US special edition?

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Casablanca-Blu-ray/8185/

http://www.amazon.com/Casablanca-Blu...8110740&sr=1-5

Cover art suggests it'll be part of a rebadged "Best Picture Series," or perhaps "Oscar Winners."

If I remember correctly, it's got a slipcover. That's the only new thing about.

Warner and Paramount are having an Academy Awards promotion where a number of titles are being repackaged with special Academy Gold slipcovers. The front art is in a small frame surrounded by gold. Above the frame is/are the Academy Award(s) the film won. Below the frame is the year it received that honor.

Here is the front of Casablanca's Academy Award slipcover:

Warner is also having a special Valentines Day promotion as well and a handful of romantic comedies & romances are being repriced to $19.98 US. Most of these were originally $28.99 to $35.99 US.

The main thing to note is that nothing changes on any of these Blu-ray Discs. In the case of the Academy Award promo titles, the art underneath the slipcover will be the same as before. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button will get a new slipcover to replace the current one temporarily but again nothing changes for the content of the discs.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention....

That "play it again Sam" tag you added is not an actual quote from the film. No one in the film ever says that line.

Ilsa's line:
Quote:
Play it, Sam. Play 'As Time Goes By'
This is what Rick says:
Quote:
You played it for her, you can play it for me. Play it!

Just got the other copy not long ago. As much as I love Casablanca nothing here to make me want to purchase again, it's a bit weird from WB to do this, could they just not have release it this way back in September? Oh well! they are big time movie producers what do I know

These "award" slipcovers have appeared on DVDs during awards season for years. Nothing different from the regular version besides the slipcover; only notable if it inspires a sale. (And since I already own the UCE, that's not notable to me.)

I hate slipcovers I though them out after I get the movies. Waste of a tree to me.

I bought There Will Be Blood on blu-ray with an Awards slipcover back in Feb. Like others have said, just a promo slipcover.

Me too. And there's something a little too anal about all that packaging. When I want to watch a movie, I don't want to fight through tons of paper. I just want to watch a movie, not put aside all the decorative paper. Except for the Lord Of The Rings Extended Edition DVDs. Those I kept.
