Default Vizio HDTV LED? - Perfect picture

I rarely post on this part of the forum, and love my 720p Panasonic Plasma, but I was at Sams Club today and they had a 52in? Vizio TV on display. It was playing Ironman on blu-ray and the picture was sooooo perfect. It was the greatest picture Id ever seen. The actors looked so lifelike. Anyways, It said it was a LED TV? I dont know what that means, but with the $2000 price tag, I got bummed out. Does anyone have this tv??

I may have to save my money and pick this up. I never thought Id get rid of my Panasonic though.

LED stands for "Light Emitting Diodes". It is still an LCD technology but instead of using Fluorescent lights in the panel to brighten the image, they use LED's.

Now I have never seen the vizio tv, so i cannot speak for that particular unit, but comparing to other 120hz vizio lcd's from last year, they are easily beat for picture quality. I'm guessing it was the 55" model and for about $250-300 more, the Samsung LED 6000 series more than likely has a much more life-like image. However, the vizio model would probably satisfy the average person so don't think it's a junk unit.

The Vizio you were looking at was more than likely 55" not 52" especially if it's LED. The new Vizio's usually go from 47" straight to 55". Go to SamsClub.com and read the ratings on that tv. They are all really good except for a few bad apples, but about 97 of the ratings were 5 star. There are always going to be a few bad apples no matter what you get. But alot of these people bought these instead of Sony or Samsung because of how great the picture was just as good and the price was exceptional.

They have the same exact HDTV at my local Costco, playing Iron Man as well. The picture quality is amazing!! This is coming from someone who owns a KURO!

I keep being told, that at 42in, which is the size of my plasma, that 720p and 1080p are too slight of a difference to notice. However, in stores, it seems my picture is not as bright and clear as the 1080p lcds. Especially the Phillips and Sony TVs, they usually have great pictures compared to other brands.

The 55in is too big for my setup at home, so if I could find a 42-46in LED tv at a decent price I would easily swap out my Panasonic for it.

Phillips makes a decent LCD for a good price.

It is all relative to viewing distance

Having owned a Philips LCD for about a year and a half, I'm going to disagree with you. Some of their "behind the scenes" processing of the picture cause unnecessary flickering in HD sources. Perfect Pixel is almost a requirement for SD sources yet it really messed with HD sources. I would suggest looking elsewhere than Philips personally.

Also, as mentioned, 1080/720 are only as relevant as your seating distance. I used to "quiz" myself on 1080i/720p sources on my 42" Philips and was right more often than not. Fine details look so much better on 1080 at my distance.

I saw the same Vizio at Sams last weekend and it is kinda misleading because the front of the box says true LED....or something like that but if you read the side of the box it says in not so big letters LCD LED so its a hybrid, anyway it did have a good picture but for the price you could just as easily buy the LG LCD LED and they are pretty similar on specs that I could see

Glad you got a good impression of the new Vizio LEDs......

Very sad for you in the fact that an uncalibrated display was the most "lifelike" image you've ever seen. (or was it best picture ever...... and can those be mutually exclusive?)

All LED sets are LCDs (at least currently)

You were there? You somehow know that no one working at that store has any interest in AVS or something like CNet or TweakTV or even just maybe eyeballed some decent settings?

I'm going off of my personal experience of never seeing a Big-Box store, or my local Costco have a display that didn't either look "too hot" or straight out of the box (the majority)

You think Sam's Club does ISF calibration on their floor models? Let's not be silly here.

EDIT:

I should have toned down my way of stating that the OP has likely seen a properly calibrated set...... and some "tweaks" does not equal "Properly Calibrated"

Hey look you're one that's making blanket statements about a calibration as definitive fact based on what you think you know which you're nowhere close to being able to make. You've already stated that you're wrong so let's just leave it at that.

Best buy has had the 55' samsung led 6000 for 2300-2600 lately and I'm sure is way better than the vizio (I use to have the 55'' sammy 6000).
