I now officially love London.

We need to adopt that kind of penalty here in the states for a lot of the crap cars that get abandoned.

Or rather, "...we will blow up your car if you park it illegally close to the PM's house on the day before a parade and we observe you running away from it"

It seems most examples of the "look how people overreact" articles I have seen are situations that require stupidity or law breaking from two different parties. The guy parked illegally in a sensitive part of town on the wrong day in a city that has a fairly long and storied history with car bombs. It's clear that in such situations the London police would rather be safe than sorry.

I believe they have them now in the UK (was over there Saturday and the airport police were loaded up like they were going in to war!).. But not here in Ireland, that's for sure.

Generally it's true.

As Garlad indicated there are AFO's (Authorized Firearms Officers) at airports and suchlike but, to my knowledge, incidents involving guns or a similar threat are dealt with by Armed Response Vehicles.

Oh yes. Didn't mean to come across as stuffy. It is amusing this guy paid a pretty heavy penalty for what, out of context, seems to be a minor indiscretion. Better him than me.

It should be interesting working this all out in the courts, establishing fault, fair compensation, etc. I suspect this guy will come out smelling like a rose.

I hope he has insurance lol. NYC tickets are around $115. That's nothing considering having the option to blow your car up lol.

I don't think insurance covers 'acts of stupidity' {him not the police}

I disagree.

I think the cops will come out on top in this case, as it wouldn't matter who the car was registered to, if they were running away from it double parked {especially since they were away long enough for the cops to a} show up and b} set the explosives} then they might tell him 'too bad'

I think the cops went to the extreme. Couldn't they have checked the car's tags to know about the owner and gather some intelligence before blowing up the car.
