Default My Panny S1 as a monitor.... help!!

ok so im getting myself a new desktop for xmas. One of my big issues when i decided to get a hdtv flat screen and upgrade was that i could use my new tv as a computer monitor. I have figured out how to use my plasma as a monitor via hdmi of course so it will be great for the little gaming i do and a ton of movies i can watch. but my big worry now is that i have (as you can see) a plasma. and what does everyone say about plasmas? dont leave them on pause or on one screen for too long. Getting to the point.... the damage is done and i have my tv (since may, so it is well broken in) and i love it. ive actually become a stickler about people pausing my tv without turning it off (including with myself) but now if i want to use it as a monitor.... how much trouble am i in? i am a college student and i write alot of papers and am on the net alot. am i setting my self up for disaster or is my panny the bad ass i hope it is?

First of all, assuming your PC has an HD card in it that supports 1080p ...

Just hook up dual monitors. Use the small one for your typing and general net surfing, and click over to the Panny for movies and gaming.

I think the whole point of his post is that he doesnt have another monitor and/or doesnt want to buy one...

Really? I got the impression the point was he wanted to use his big 50 inch as a monitor. Most people have an old monitor of some sort lying around, and a decent 20 inch widescreen monitor could be had for less than $100.

Well even if I misunderstood his original post, I stick by my comment. Dual monitors would be the best and safest option.

Since the display has already been broken in, it shouldn't be too much of an issue unless you leave it with the taskbar or some other static image for hours on end. Just remember when you are writing a paper, it's good to take a break every few hours, your tv can take a break at the same time by switching it over to something else.

I use my plasma as a monitor for my pc, but I use it mainly for checking email and watching recorded television(much more space than those dinky set-top boxes). I've had no issues to date, even when playing games with information displays which are constantly on screen for a few hours at a time.

If the predominant use for the display is going to be homework and web surfing, then a monitor may work better.

Default Burn in

Indeed. There's no reason to worry about burn in, unless you leave a static image on for days at the time. And since your HDTV is broken in, I can't see any problems. Have fun !!
