Default rec for monitor 70, cs2, monitor 30s

hey all, ive been a member for a while, but just lurk and try to pick up tips from you gurus, dont post much, but i have a question. i recently ordered up a pair of polk monitor 70s, a cs2, and a pair of monitor 30 for rears on neweggs lastest sale. the only thing is though, i am not really sure which receiver would be the best for me. i want a decent one, but not an out of this world one. budget probably around $400-$600. if there are newer models coming out in the future i can wait with no problem (would be nice to recoup some funds). also i have a ps3 and will be hooking all of this stuff up to some sort of a 55" tv in the next couple of months. boy is it fun to finish your basement!!! thanks ahead of time for everyone's help.

Congrats on the new purchase. In you're budget you will definitely need to buy something with pre-outs, so you can add an amplifier later. Those Monitor 70's will greatly thank you for it. With that said I would recommend the Onkyo 706 @ Tiger Direct right now for $499, or the Yamaha 765 for $600 at most online retailers. The Yamaha has a leg up for music quality from what I understand.

The Harman kardon avr 354 is also a good choice but around the $600 range on both ebay and amazon unless you want a refurb...

Congrats on the speakers nick. I am surprised they shipped your speakers from CA, as I am in PA and mine always come from their Newark facility in NJ. Good luck with the AVR search by the way, the ones recommended are all good. My 2 cents is for the Pioneer 1019...120 watts per channel and 4 HDMI inputs. No pre-outs, but 120 watts is nothing to sneeze at to begin with!

thanks for help so far. would it make much difference knowing that most of time this will be used for gaming/blu ray watching/direct tv? probably not that much music. wasnt sure if that might sway any of you in a different direction.

Unfortunately, they have warehouse in different parts of the country. When I ordered new tweeters for my vintage Polk speakers, they were shipped from San Diego. I say unfortunately because I had to pay 8.5% Schwarzenegger tax.
