Question Disney to back HD DVD? Fat chance!

okay. im very confused. and maybe he was talking out of blatant ignorance but a Best Buy sales rep told me today that Disney just announced that they have just opted to join HD-DVD. tell me he's wrong. and in the same breath he told me Microsoft has an exclusive contract with HD-DVD? so all the Microsoft OS based laptops/PCs will have hdmi outputs and include an HD-DVD disc drive??? thoughts?

This is where you've got to use the evidence you're given. Blu-ray doing as well as it is, HD DVD doing as bad as it is, why would this happen?

Never say never.

But at this point with AACS a sieve, and Disney releasing "Better than Perfect" jabs in advertising, and Iger saying they've made their choice and will stick with it, there is nothing coming from HD DVD that would indicate any reason for Disney to introduce that expense.

The world is Blu. And despite what Microsoft thinks, the studios DO look at the rest of the world outside North America, since it represents 2/3 of their revenue.

That said, the HD DVD fanbois will probably keep pushing imminent Disney neutrality as a means of confusing the noobs.

Best Buy staff has been lying about which side has the most studio support since just about ever.

I don't think Disney would be going through such a big Blu Ray ad campaign if it was planning to back HD- It'll start releasing it's animated classics on Blu Ray next year starting with "Sleeping Beauty"- and Disney DVD's and Blu Ray Discs have ads promising tiltles ranging from 'Aladdin" "The Little mermaid" and Beauty and the Beast" to "The Lion Knig" and many more

As for the Microsoft thing- Microsoft's Xbox has an HD DVD add on (that included King Kong) and I believe that Microsoft is behind some of the HD DVD technology- BUT that doesn't mean that Microsoft OS run computers will be HD Exclusive- the store I work at recently sold out of Sony Vaio Laptops that run on Vista that included a Blu Ray Player/Burner- it had an HDMI output and was only 1800 bucks

I think any HD DVD/BD exclusivity will depend on the manufacturere (HP, Toshiba etc etc etc

You can't always trust everyone- many people think they're experts- I knew someone who didns't understand the hype over BD because he thought that HD DVD was the clear cut winner

With exclusive rights to BD and HD DVD- unless the compnay formaliy announces it, OR if it looks like it's happening from evidence of products in stores, I'd take it with a grain of salt

Whatever you do, don't ever listen to anything from any Best Buy employee, for the most part. They have to be the worst informed people of any electronics retailer.

Disney would begin selling Snow White to drunken sailors before they'd go with HD-DVD. And I expect Snow White to remain as pristine as all my Blu-ray discs.

Your Best Buy rep is either an idiot or a HD-DVD fanboy, Disney will NEVER produce movies in HD-DVD format.

My guess is he got confused by a handful of title releases overseas that are Disney/BVHE stateside, but under a HD-DVD distributer in other markets...

Then again, I perfer to think of people making honest mistakes.

There's more chance of Dinsey falling back and supporting betamax than going with HD-DUD.

I've had problems with Best Buy staff trying to push HD-DVD on me. They'll say things like "too bad Sony had to go and invent a crappier format and create this whole war" and things like that, since then I've pretty much quit shopping there...
