Default Older Games Worth Playing?

Hey all,

I am rather new to PS3 and haven't done much gaming since the Doom days. I have thoroughly enjoyed Batman:AA and the Uncharted games, love playing LBP with my kids. I thought Assassin's Creed was visulally incredible but the play was tedious. Back in the days of its inital release, I played Half Life and bought The Orange Box for old times sake. Used to play Call of Duty back before it have numbers and colon's after its name! Not much into sports games.

So with that in mind, I am looking at going retro with some older PS3 games and wondering what's really worth playing. Any advice on what would hold up to the test of time in terms of storyline and playability?

How about these?

Resistance: Fall of Man
Metal Gear Solid
Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction
Bioshock
Fallout

Any other suggestions?

All those titles you mentioned will do. Personally I'd go with Resistance and Metal Gear to begin

Metal Gear solid 4 is hands down one of the greatest games ever.
But I would also add:

Dead Space
The Darkness (was fun and can be had for cheap)
Devil may cry 4

Of the PS3 exclusives, MGS is probably the best of the bunch.

I prefer both Bioshock and Fallout 3 as games, but in both cases are much better on a decent PC rather than a console.

of the titles mentioned, i would definitely go with
Metal Gear Solid
Fallout 3 (im assuming 3 right?)

it really depends on your preferences, and ive chosen those two because i like the MGS series. Fallout 3 is definitely something new to me, and have been enjoying it since last friday.

in corellation to this, id also suggest getting something different, aside from FPS games, something to stir the mind so to speak.

you can download games like
PixelJunk Monsters
(other games by Pixeljunk)
Flower (some like it, i did a bit)...

No ratchet? i guess i never liked it that much. again a personal preference. But my friends swear by it like it belongs in the halls of valhalla.

Oblivion. Hands down the best game on PS3 to date IMO. Tons of replayability. Especially for the price. Game of the year edition can be had for under 30 now.

You should totally get Resistance and Dead Space! Resistance is a piece of PS3 history and features a GREAT story and Dead Space is just plain beautiful! (in a nasty kinda way)

Lol you make it sound like you're asking about 10 year old games.

except for R:FoM, those games are 2 years old at the most. Fallout 3 is barely a year old, for God's sake.

I'll dissent and say that of the games on your list, Metal Gear Solid 4, Bioshock, and Ratchet and Clank hold up best in comparison to more recent games.

I'd be remiss if I didn't heavily recommend Uncharted 2. If you enjoyed the first one, the second one will definitely be right up your alley.

Aside from stuff that has already been suggested, I would recommend checking out Valkyria Chronicles.

Actually, in 16 days, the PS3 and R:FOM will celebrate their THIRD birthdays!

You should suggest all the best 10-year-old PS3 games for him.
