Default Buy Trek now or wait...?

I have been debating whether or not to buy the ST Voyager, Deep Space Nine & Next Generation series on standard DVD or WAIT for them to be released on Blu-Ray. I know a great many of you would simply say "It's up to you" but I'm looking for a majority opinion of whether to wait or buy, because I don't want to wait for 5 years until they come out on Blu. Would love to hear your opinions!

Wait. If you're going to own them, then I'd wait for the best possible quality. If you really wanna watch them for now, you can do what I did and 'aquire' them in a different way. I think it's justifiable if you end up buying them anyway.

If you really want to see the movie rent it and rip it until the blu-rays come out, don't buy DVD it's a waste of money.

The later Star Trek series will be a while coming to HD, if at all. The effects all need to be re-done because they were originally edited on videotape. That's EVERY effects shot, whether a complex spaceship battle or a simple phaser firing down a corrider. That'll take a LOT more than 5 years!

If you want these series buy them on DVD at a good price!

I agreed. Look how long it took for the original series to come out on blu ray. However if it does come out on blu ray, I hope they will remaster it just like they did for the original series.

Well, not really... but Im a blu-ray guy too so I understand how you guys feel. DVD still outsells blu-ray buy quite a bit. In due time my friends....in due time!

As for Trek stuff or any other films: I wont buy anything on DVD anymore. Not gonna do it. Netflix is your friend and you can rent all that stuff, watch it, enjoy it and wait for the blu-rays to eventually to come out. I know how it is...you want it NOW and the DVDs are tempting. Dont do it though. Patience, young padawan.

I would wait for it to come out on blu THEN buy it on DVD

we all know paramount is gonna try and charge $200 per season to drain those trekkie wallets.

really though i think you will have a long wait, and even then it is unknown at all imo... if you can get the DVDs at a fair price i say go for it. Also Enterprise if i remember correctly is available for download on XBOX live and probably else where in 720p.

Hold out for Blu and the quality it brings - hopefully it will also include lossless audio!

The only TV shows I'm buying on DVD anymore are the ones that I already have quite a few seasons of on DVD, or those that have not even been fully released on DVD, yet (e.g., NYPD Blue). For the shows that I only had 1-2 seasons of, I sold the DVDs and will acquire the Blu-Rays as they go on sale.

I'm with rocks off. I've already "acquired" TNG and watched it through, content until the series comes out on BD.

DVD is far from DEAD

Not everything is worth getting on BLu Ray. The price line between blu and DVD is getting way, way closer now too where it doesn't even matter what format you buy. Myself, i only get a blu if the video score is at least 4.5 or 5.0.....for TV i don't see any difference. Also, 720P to 1080P is not a "LIFE CHANGING" upgrade either contrary to a mass opinion.

Since you're getting TV sets.....just buy the TV set in DVD format. Way cheaper and there won't be a "EARTH SHATTERING" difference in quality, lol

A lot depends what player you have??? You mean to tell me that your same DVD's sound bad on the blu ray player you use??? LOL.

Don't be a zombie about blu. I am happy with blu but not all of it is "EARTH SHATTERING"

regular DVD is horrid, just horrid, wait for the 1080p as it is a requirement for everything, now i am off to another thread to tell people how their tv is to small for the sitting distance and they are only seeing 720 or less anyways so...

I love blu, but in this case you will be waiting a LONG time, and if you are really picky, get yourself an OPPO and the DVD's, way cheaper i am sure, as well as quicker.

Don't buy the DVD, buy it on blu. It will be worth any wait.

DVD is not horrid....if it was...it still would not be #1 in sales globally. VHS...no argument from me.
