Default Why 8" subwoofer?

Hi guys
I don't understand why the people recommend me 8" subwoofer
why cannot be 12"?, please i need your advices

-Receiver: 5.1 Sony STR-DH500
-Center speaker: Sony SS-CR3000
-Front speakers: Sony SS-F6000 Floor Standing Speakers
-Rear speakers: Sony SS-B1000
-Subwoofer: i have a active Sony subwoofer model SA-WMSP75 from a Sony HT-DDW750 Home Theater System

My first option was a JBL ES250PBK 12" but now im seriously planing buy a Elemental Designs A2-300
Also i read good reviews about the Acoustic Audio HD-SUB12

But first i would like to know why people recommend me a 8" not 12" sub?
I live in small apartment and i use my home theater only to play movies(horror and action) i love deep and highs bumps!

I hope you can hepl me guys!

From what I gather, a 12" sub does not necessarily mean it will blow your neighbors windows out. The A2-300 probably could but since you will be a respectible neighbor and tune your sub to the rest of your system it shouldnt be any "louder" than the one you have. It will however be much deeper and sweeter sounding. Get the A2-300 and post pics. Tell us how much you love it.

Ok so you have a small to medium sized room. I would say that you could be good with either way.

One 10"

or Dual 8"

In your situation You could go to with a 12" sub, but the size of the area you are looking provide bass for is the same as mine and I find that one good 10" sub provides more then sufficient bass. I do however want to get a second 10" because I feel that I would get more even bass response in my listening area. Although I would have to turn the gain on the sub down even lower so that it wouldn't overpower the room. I think you may find that 2 8" subs would work very good for you, also.

I am not saying that you cannot or should not have a 12" sub, that is completely up to you. However a good 10" or dual 8"s would give you just as good of a result given the size of the area you are providing bass for, and with your speakers. I used to have the SS-F5000.

I wouldn't call that a small room!
I think your REAL problem is the Sony speakers. Sony makes geeat TVs, players and receivers, but their speakers are at the bottom of the quality scale.
A good setup for an apartment qould be either ths Polk or Klipsch Quintet III (about $500 the 5 speaker set), and a matching 10" sub for another $350 or so.

Either would serve you well, and would still be useful if you move to larger quarters.

Get 4 18's and cross them over so low your neighbors will think it's an earthquake.

This is one bad a$$ scene, callas is 100% right.....I was amazed both visually and audibly with what I saw and heard during that scene....one of the best scenes out there to show of you HT for both audio and video.

Buy what you want. Don't go by room size calculators. Those are BS. Get your A2-300.

You should always buy the best and biggest sub you can afford. As long as you adjust and calibrate it properly, you should be ok. Also remember that two subwoofers are better than one and no room is too small. You can ask this guy.
