Default Universal remote

Hi guys

I'm looking to buy a universal remote. I'm looking at the Logitech Harmony 1100. is there any other remotes with the same basic specs/features for relativily the same price that you would recommend?

IMO, Harmony makes some of the best remotes.....if it is the 1100 you want, then I say go for it. You will be very happy with it. I don't think you will find a similiar remote that can do what Harmony remotes can do.

IMO Harmony makes the best remotes. If you need RF, check out the 900 or the 1100. If you can make it with just IR the Harmony One is a fine remote. Amazon is running a special right now. Buy the Harmony One for $159.99 and you get the Harmony PS3 adapter free.

I was a big Harmony guy for a long time until my last remote (an 880). I was very dissppointed with the build quality. Right now I'm using a URC MX-810 and I am VERY pleased. It's not the prettiest remote but work flawlessly.

Excellent choice on the 1100. I have a One myself, but I could certainly see the benefits of the RF functionality the 1100 offers.

I've heard quite a few people were disappointed with the 880/890, especially with getting the remotes to sit in the cradle and charge. I think you would find those issues have been corrected in the One though. However, you do have a remote you're satisfied with and that's the most important thing.

Yup, the cradle was a PITA. Harmony tech support was good and sent me a new one but it was the same... plus having to fiddle the battery constantly sucked.

I have a logitech 880 and a x10 universal remote, and i prefer the x10 remote plus it has RF for my lighting and other equipment. The other huge bonus with the x10 is it's only $50 and feels and performs like more expensive remotes.

here is a link, if your interested look around on the web site and make sure your getting the one for $50 and not $70 it's the same remote just different prices on the same site.

http://www.x10.com/homepage.htm

Personally i hate the logitech 1100 it's not comfortable to hold in 1 hand and with the LCD touch screen your always forced to look at the screen instead the feel of the buttons, plus the price is crazy.

I have the 890. In addition to the charger cradle problem, I have trouble with it not turning my equipment on. If I hit the help button afterwards, all of the equipment turns on and goes to the right setting so I know I have it configured correctly. I have tried changing the time delays but it creates other problems. Their support really sucks. They suggested loading the latest firmware. I have no experience with their other models but I would stay away from the 890.

I don't want to turn this into a Harmony bashing thread but the quality seemed to really go down hill when they were purchased by Logitech. My URC is an RF remote, cheaper than the 1100, rechargeable and I can operate it blindfolded.

Try changing the order in which the components are turned on. I don't know why it would make a difference, but in my setup and with a Harmony One the only way to get my Xbox 360 activity (using the 360, TV, and receiver) to work properly was to have the 360 power on last. If it was anywhere else in the sequence then the 360 would never power on without hitting the Help button. It's something you'll have to experiment with to see what works. I hope this helps.

Thanks Fireman, I'll give it a try.

I have been using my harmony 880 for a couple of years now with no major issues. The couple of times I couldn't figure something out their tech support was fantastic and they are in the U.S. too. As for the X10 remote, it looks great but the last thing I need on a remote is facebook. I don't use facebook, twitter, myspace and never will. I just need my remote to be a remote.

I've had my Harmony 1100 for a few months now and absolutely love it. Got a great deal on ebay, $280 brand new shipped.
