Default Help Buying Camera

I didnt know where to post this, so mods please move if needed. I am looking for a camera for my girlfriend for christmas and i am asking anyone with any camera knowledge for help. I am looking for the best point and shoot camera for $150. My girlfrieend isnt a camera enthusiast but she does know the difference between a good picture and a bad one (her dad has a small collection of slr's which are quite nice). I want the best camera for $150 or less, any input is greatly appreciated.

Nikon and Canon have always made some of the best cameras you could buy. When 35mm was the thing to have, all the pros used Nikon and Canon. I would think their quality would carry on in digital cameras too. I've been seeing a Nikon CoolPix at Sam's Club for about $90. It's 10 megapixel with what seemed like a lot of features. There's probably several models between it, and the $150 models. Olympus was always a pretty good one too. I, personally, would love to get one of the $1000 Canon digital SLR cameras.
