was wondering and i could not find a thread on it.
is it better to run you coax cable (RG6) direct from the source to your sat receiver? or run your coax from your source into your power conditioner and than out ot your sat receiver? just wondering if the direct connect gives you a better signal or am i just ![]() thanks in advance ![]() |

ya thats what i thought. i have dish network HD with dvr and i run my coax into my apc15 and then out to my dish receiver. it looks great and no problems, but i was wondering and i guess i can check for myself it it would be a cleaner more direct signal if i went straight in from the source?

I had mine running straight for a long time to my Dish DVR. It wasn't until today that I ran it through the PF60 and I can't see any difference. I tried it once before when I had Comcast and a different model of power conditioner and it didn't work. I couldn't get a picture at all and I had to run the cable straight back to the cable box.

Sorry guys iv'e had alot of issues with doing this in customers homes. Fuzzy or distorted pic , signal loss with cable so I avoid doing it at all even with my own equipment. I use a Monster HTS2600 MKll for my pre/pro and amps and a APC battery back up for sensitive equip like Direct tv hd-dvr ,Wii, BD. Now I am curious why it works for you guys and why iv'e seen so many problems with going that rout. I stand corrected.

My Belkin PF60 hasn't introduced any issues, but I couldn't run the cable through an older AR surge protector that I used to have (can't recall the exact model). So obviously this varies depending on the particular surge protector you use, and may also vary depending on your cable/satellite source. I'm sure some have better signal strength than otheres. What I have yet to find out though, is whether or not I'm now more likely to experience signal interrputions in inclement weather.

I was running my HD cable through my APC H15. NatGeo didn't come in clearly. Then I wasn't getting my local football games. I called a TimeWarner cable guy out. He told me sometimes HD channel frequencies don't jibe with power conditioners. I ran the cable straight to the box and viola! everything came in fine. He said not to worry since the cable is grounded outside. I live in a condo complex and all of our lines (cable, electricity) are buried, so I'm not worried about it.

I have Charter and I cannot run my coax to my Monster PC then to the HD DVR receiver. My problem is reg channel signals cut in & out, distort, and are pixelated. But the few HD channels I have are perfect. So IMO, they send out a shity SD signal that my power conditioner 'cleans.'

I think it depends if the coax ports support the bandwidth.
When I first had my DirecTV installed, the TV with the HD-DVR would not get a signal. The installer finally narrowed it down to the fact that the wall jack was an old coax jack and it needed to be a newer high bandwidth jack. The installer told me that the jacks with the blue centers are the recommended ones for any HD signalling. I'm not sure how much is the truth, but all I know is that when he changed it out with one of his blue centered coax jacks, it worked immediately. ![]() |
