'Cabaret' and 'Straw Dogs' released today - region-free? - Blu-ray Forum

'Cabaret' and 'Straw Dogs' are released on Blu-ray in the UK today. As I have a US player, I need to find out if they are region-free before ordering. Can anyone confirm this please? Also are the SD extras in NTSC (480p/i) or PAL (576p/i)?

Oh, Straw Dogs in HD!!! That's gonna be nasty...

Let's hope it's region free.

Edit: Are you sure about the release date? I see that Amazon UK has a 4-5 delivery date (usually means it's not available), and Play has a January 31st release date:

Edit 2: Another site with a "awaiting stock" status... This site also states region B:

I think Amazon would know the release date of STRAW DOGS as well as Play so I have no clue what the release date will be, HMV states a release date of 2nd of March 2009.
I hope this will come in 4 or 5 days with amazon, but i'm affraid this title is pushed back to early 2009.

Arghhh that's annoying. I hadn't re-checked the release date recently.

I suspect they show Region B simply because it's a UK release. It probably doesn't mean anything in terms of whether it will be region-locked or not. We'll find out once it's actually released.

Yeah, I guess you're right.

If SONY doesn't make the PS3 region free with a new firmware update anytime soon I'm gonna have to buy me a region B player anyway... I must have BFI's release of Salo...

No it isn't. The date supplied to Amazon (10/10/10) is clearly a dummy date (like 01/01/nn or 31/12/nn). October 10th 2010 happens to be a Sunday - might be a bit of a clue there!

I noticed that there is at least some Straw Dogs artwork up now.
not that I think Freemantle will ever release it.
I think it must have the record now for the most pre-orders without a release.
I gave up following that one and "Cabaret" after 2 years.

I mean seriously, what a joke.
